I really respect Iverson for being loyal to his team. Unlike Payton and Malone, if Iverson can't earn a ring on his own he doesn't want one at all. The guy has too much dignity to ride someone else's coattails to an undeserving title.

AI found out he has more pull than the coach, doesn't have to participate in practices, and can jack up as many shots as he wants.

This is a good negotiating ploy to get an extension. The fan favorite wants to play the rest of his career with Philly. He definitely has the fans' support and management has to give him the deal.

If Iverson is that dedicated to the 76ers, then he should be commended for that.

Only time will tell if AI's opinion will change. I doubt Karl Malone ever thought he would be in the purple and gold, but the need for the ring is something that each most decide for himself.

    Exactly.

AI is only what, 27 or so? In another 5 or so years, he could be singing a different tune if Philly is still a mediocre club.

If AI is the "Answer," then was the question, "Which NBA player will have been touted as the best thing to hit Philly since Dr. J only to be considered all in all a largely overpaid flop in the longrun?"

Of course our beloved "Sir Chuck" could fit that answer too I suppose.

Give him five more early playoff exits, or lotto teams, and he'll see the grass greener on the other side... well... no pun was intended, but then...;)

Its probably because larry brown has just left and he wanted the fans not panic. we will see in a few years if he still feels the same. every entertainer wants you to believe that your city is the greatest city in the world no matter what city that is until they move on to the next city.

The same Dr. J that rode the coattails of Moses to his ONLY ring? AI is already in the same breath as Julius and Charles in Philly lore.

    Beloved?

Yeah. Time will tell. But AI has been nothing but true to himself since entering the L. I'll take his word on it.

Just like Clyde rode Hakeem's coattails for his only ring. No shame in that.

Anyway, I doubt Iverson's going to last much longer in the league anyway, unless he develops a more reliable jumper or moves back to the 1.

The reason that I mentioned the coattail thing is because it was said that Iverson was supposed to be the BEST thing to hit Philly since the Doctor. My point was that he already is as good if not better than the Doctor was. He sells as many tickets and as much merchandise as Julius. How many scoring titles did Doc have in Philly?

Maybe Shaq'll go to Philly, ala Moses, get a ring and everyone's opinion of AI will change.

    What about Isiah?
He always seems to be forgotten in these types of discussions. Probably wouldn't be happening if he wasn't left off of the Dream Team. Christian? Scottie? Mullin even. What a rip-off.

What else were Payton and Malone supposed to do? Gary was traded and wasn't going to get much from a team he only played for a half season.

    Utah wanted to start rebuilding.
