What do you think about 2K as the momment rating the Rockets 2nd in defense. Do you think this is a fair assement and what exactly makes us a good defensive team?
It is a fair assesment but it doesn't mean it will be the final rank either. But for sure within the realm of possibillities. What makes the Rockets a good defensive team is forcing turnovers, guarding the three point line dropping the opponents efg%, rim protection with Dwight in (second best defensive center) I think it is possible the Rockets end up in the top 5 tho. Maybe 3rd or 4rth. Because if I had to make a guess as to who will be the second best defence behind the Warriors it would be Utah. With Lawson the turnovers will be dropped but the backcourt defence will also suffer. So who knows what is the net result.
I can't get lawsons shot timing right. I played a game online and he went 2/13 on all open mid range and 3s. His passing is amazing tho. Harden scored 45 and 12 in Overtime to rain on the Warriors parade.
Depends on the type of PF. If they are a stretch 4, you have Ariza, Brewer or Jones capable of handling the situation. If they are a post up kinda guy, Dwight and Capela are more than capable(I have faith that Capela will be in the weight room this summer).
It's weird and we should not be top 2 in neither offense nor defense overall. Top 10 in both is even arguable, but I guess it's based on rating so Ariza, Brewer, Beverley & Howard are such studs in some categories that we are rated this high.
We were ranked #2-3 almost the entire season last year despite carrying injuries to two of our best defenders all season
Exum may have been a lousy offensive player, but he was their 2nd best defender and really important to that rosters late season burst. His replacement on the other hand is Aaron Brooks like on d.
No, I think you're mistaken. We were top 3 maybe first few weeks, but after that we were out of top 5 according to most stats. They all use different ones, but what matters most in this case is accumulation of individual defense.
That is incorrect. Based on NBA.com's advanced stats, the Rockets were #2 defensively until January 20th. They dropped to #4 on January 21st. They were #3 at the beginning of March. They finished the season 6th in defensive rating. So to summarize, they were 2nd for the first 3 months of the season. They then dropped a bit from 2nd and hovered around in the top 5 for the rest of the year.
Yet we still had horrible communication on the pick and roll, switches, constantly showed on screens, crap rotations, etc. Talent goes far, mchale has amazing tools to work with. This should be the BEST defensive team. I take a position against those cumulative rankings. We can really shut down a bad team, but lose to a greater team in the final few minutes due to poor defense yet itd be weighed out as great defense if you sum those two games up.
A lot of communication is about continuity, and our revolving door of injuries gave no continuity whatsoever. It's almost comical that you seem to imply it's Mchale's or any coaches fault that the timing of switches etc is a little off for players who didn't really get to play much with each other.
