Yeah; it's what I call a synopsis trailer. Studio doesn't trust marketing to sell the movie on merit alone so they do a little breakdown of the plot. I hate these trailers.
Turned the trailer off halfway through because I could tell it was going to give away far too much, and that seems to be the case reading a few of the posts on this thread. Looks great, IMO. Didn't read the book but heard great things, and that cast is pretty amazing. Ridley Scott isn't my favorite director out there, but this looks really good. Looking forward to it.
I've never seen a book become a movie so fast -- enjoyed the book -- wish it would have had more sci-fi about what Mark was seeing on the ground in his travels (fossils/ weird stuff), but a great adventure regardless. Pretty much a perfect book to be made into a movie.
Damon should be fine. Not real impressed with the rest of the cast. I think Bryan Cranston would have been very good in the lead role.
I turned the trailer off 30 seconds in, I just wanted to know what it was about and if I wanted to see it or not. I hate when movies/tv shows get spoiled. I like not knowing anything about a movie going into it. I think I may read the book though, I have heard its really good.
Ex-Machina blows away all these movies with big budgets backed up by legendary directors like Ridley Scott and Chris Nolan. That's saying something about making Sci Fi movie with a small budget. It's all in the idea and execution.
The trailer showed way too much but it looks great. I shouldn't have watched the trailer. Ex-Machina was great, but a little overrated IMO. If felt like a big episode of Black Mirror (if you haven't seen this show it's on Netflix). It's probably because the reviews were so great, I went in thinking it was going to be something more* amazing. Most of the AI tropes were present, I don't think it was something we haven't seen before on TV and in past films.

The trailer gave away too much. 6 astronauts 140 millions miles away on mars. Sean Bean dies on Earth.
Just saw an early screening of this tonight. It was VERY GOOD. I'd give it a 10/10. The story and plot were top notch, every actor gave great performances, directing and cinematography were amazing. The movie did a great job at making the story and characters feel real as if something like this could happen. Wonderful suspense and drama gave it a monumental feel that you felt you were in the movie universe and part of NASA's mission control watching everything unfold. It's probably not as scientific as Interstellar, nor as conceptual and grand of a story, but I thought it was more enjoyable and emotional. It's basically 2.5 hours of survival in space, solving one problem to the next, but it never felt long nor boring. Better than Gravity, too, although Gravity had better visuals.
This to me is the best endorsement for this movie, because I enjoyed the everyloving **** out of Gravity and continue to do so. That movie had me riveted and on the edge of my seat nearly from start to finish.
True story: I went to a lecture given by Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson about Hollywood and science and he showed the trailer for this film. Afterwards, he was so enthused by it, he put up this: saying it was one of the greatest profane quotes in Hollywood history. That's enough of an endorsement for me.
I'm not concerned about the trailer, having read the book. I just hope the flick is good. Yeah, I'm a bit tired of Matt Damon in SF films, but he is a fine actor. Give him good material, and he can deliver. I'm excited about seeing it.
Dude I'm thristin for another sci fi movie. Not enough of them this year, maybe I missed some? Ex-Machina others????? Is Chappie 2015?? Or last year? Either way, I'll be seeing this one. Interstellar was okay.
