I hope you don't do it, OP, or didn't do it. It's not worth it. The past does not exist to justify the present and it's not there for our convenience. It is what it is.

It sounds like the OP was reacting to the shock of learning his deadbeat father's exact whereabouts and lifestyle after all those years. I can't imagine what that must feel like.

I think it's great that an anonymous BBS could keep him from making a big mistake. Kudos to all the posters who responded with genuine attempts to help.

I had time to reconsider. Scream YOLO and take rightfully what is yours. Claim your birthright like a man.

Instead of kicking in the front door, maybe punch in the back door?

When people need to talk, sometimes telling a story about yourself is the best way vs giving straight advice. And in this thread, it seemed to have worked. That was my goal, not making the thread about myself. You don't see that, I guess.

this has to be a joke.

My dad was an A-hole never game me anything and who beat me regularly. Even if he was still alive a Car or motorcycle wouldn't make up for it and I'd be way to proud to take it as a grown man.

Living well is the best payback you can have. Raise your kids better than you were raised. Forget it and move on with your life.

I guess it was just the OP conflating objects with emotional needs/wants.

I've had a friend go through finding out about their real father and his comfort. I get that it's pretty tough. Sounds like the OP might have been better off all along and would be better off staying away from a POS playboy.

OP, studies show that people max out in happiness once they reach about $70k of household income. Objects and money basically don't help after you have all the basics and a few toys covered.

I guess if you really wanted to upset your dad at some point, send him a long letter with a bunch of photos of you and your kids telling him how to be a real dad and showing him what he missed out on.

Hope you've decided to just leave the old jerk alone.

So OP is self-proclaimed successful in a stable marriage and wants to go commit crime for money he thinks he is owed from someone who could not care less about him? If you are successful take the high road and keep on living your life and quit dwelling on the negative. What am I missing here?

I think he had a little too much to drink and was just venting.

It's happened to most of us here at one time or another. Totally understandable.
