Starting to wonder if the Mets had more info than Luhnow did when they backed out of their trade for Gomez.
Man listening to Chris Burke homer while going through some old Milo memories really makes me want this season to turn out well even more Burke, Kent, Hatcher....need a big win tonight to have a chance at another moment like that happening this year
There was a concern about his hip at that time. Didn't see much difference in his speed or ability to go hard (and his swing was coming back around nicely). Isn't this an intercostal strain, correct? Can definitely happen from over-swinging. Is painful as hell... and can be re-aggravated pretty easily.
Man, those Keuchel fans that paid extra to travel and sit in the Rangers corner (to re-create a Keuchel's Korner) were probably pretty pissed off.
Some guy called into Palilo the other day and said he was in Anaheim for the whole series, and he watched batting practice Sunday. Said at the very end of it, Gomez was swinging his brains out trying to hit the big "A" in center field, and that's how he got hurt.
Probably the same people who went for McCullers' start last time he was there and didn't get out of the first inning.
The Gomez deal was also made with next year in mind. The Astros will have him in the outfield next season, letting their younger players get more time to develop and the Astros will also get a compensatory pick if they do not sign him. I don't have a problem with the trade. I think the Astros got a very good #4 starter and a capable outfielder offensively and defensively for what amounted to an overrated prospect (Phillips) and another that was never going to get a chance in Houston (Santana).
Yeah... but this was a much more coordinated effort. Had to somehow purchase a block of tickets in that particular section (I presume from existing Rangers season ticket holders). Also they were pretty visible on the cameras thanks to the costumes/beards (which can add to the dissapointment/embarassment).
Me neither... I thought it was a great deal then (even when he struggled), and its still a great deal. If Marisnick makes improvement with the bat, they can all share the OF... if not, Marisnick is a spot player.
That would do it... at the very least, its not Mets inside information (unless they thought the big apple out there would be too enticing and the same injury would happen).
As for Marisnick, I tend to favor advanced stats. However, Marisnick is so good defensively and he does small things like steal bases and bother pitchers. Ideally we add a big bat at 3rd or 1st and extend the line up a little longer and we can afford to have Marisnick in the line up. If we call up Reed/White and shift Tucker to DH and get a 3rd baseman, the line up will be longer and more potent and Marisnick can hit 8-9. It seems like a lot of changes but I expect a lot of changes.
I don't think any of us know what the Mets knew, and so we also don't know if his current injury is related to what the Mets knew. It's entirely possible he aggravated an underlying injury he already had.
