We are talking about a legend of the game, playing painfully past his time. I just get sad, literally, thinking of the denial he must be in.

I found it painfully ironic that tonight Hakeem had 10 points and 8 boards and we view that as him being productive. He shot just 4-13.

It reminds me of a game on April 2, 1989. The Rockets lost 108-99 to the Sixers in Philly despite Otis Thorpe putting up 37 points.

Said the Sixers' Charles Barkley after the game:

"You don't just shut down Akeem Olajuwon. He's the best center in the league. He just didn't feel like playing today. He wasn't in the game. We all have nights like that. But he's still the best center in the league."

That game Dream had 10 points. He was 4-13 from the field.

I can't see these games, so I wonder if anyone can tell me: Did Hakeem really leave it all out there on the floor? Try to play with pride? Or does he have that "I-want-out-of-here-and-don't-want-to-be-damaged-goods-when-I-arrive-in-Miami" look about him?

The man is so good at everything except winding down his career. Cant fault him for that, really. It is sad watching him though. I'd like to see him have at least one more game where he plays like the Dream of old (or I guess I should say Dream of young).

Well every athlete has to end their career at some point, its just too bad that Hakeem doesn't know it. [IMG]

Instead of "Doing whats best for the Rockets", Dream is a distraction. When Barkley went down with his knee injury last season, he stayed in touch with the team. He called Francis almost every day and offered encouragement as well as sharing his experience.

When Dream went on the injured list, he stayed home, did not practice. Now that he is back with the team, it is painful to see his half hearted (or severely eroding skills) play.

I wish nothing but the best for Dream, and the best thing he could do is finish this season without anymore complaining and retire. He is only fooling himself.

I also wish Hakeem would just end his career. He was a superstar in the mid 90s, but now hes just average, or even below average. Now instead of being remembered as the best center to play the game, he will be remembered as an old, sorry whiner.

How you remember Hakeem is up to you. I know that I will remember him for the superstar he is. There is no reason to forget his past accomplishments, just because he has aged a bit.

Damn, Clutch...You can remember quotes and stat lines from game that happened almost 12 years ago...Remind me never to borrow any money from YOU. [IMG]

Anyways, I have no problems about how Dream will be remembered...When he's standing at that podium in Springfield, MA and ESPN is doing a retrospective of his career, I'm pretty sure they won't be showing any highlights of his dunks getting blocked by the rim...

i don't think dream is in denial. i just think he wants to keep doing what he loves to do. we can't fault him for that , sure as fans we dont like to see his skills fade away like this, but maybe he doesn't mind.
