Well, they need to be on the 40-man roster. Apparently they changed the rule, which makes a lot of things the team did make more sense.

Edit: Baseball is way too secretive regarding their rules. Postseason roster eligibility should be easily accessible, and it should be news when the rules are changed. Where was this article a month ago when were discussing the same thing here?:

Bummer about Feldman. He was pitching extremely well. I think Fiers will be in the rotation anyway with Keuchel, McHugh, and Kazmir...with McCullers coming out of the pen.

Doubt that happens. Neither Reed or White are Rule 5 eligible and I don't see Luhnow taking up a 40 man spot with either of them for a few weeks of playing time.

Looked like Feldman had figured it out. Like to see him back next year.

We could have seen Feldman in an Astros uniform for the last time. With the rotation depth under team control for next year (Keuchel, McHugh, McCullers, Fiers, Velasquez) it might make sense to trade him while his value is at a fairly high level.

Also only $8MM next year so we could keep him too. Just pointing out a potential possibility.
