You can't look at a map who who voted or and against and call it "bi-partisan". The city had a plan to house the homeless in 3 years but this is going to make that more difficult becuase people are going to be constantly shuffling around. That makes it difficult for experts to engage with people and help them transition back. The hotel program is really really great and we just need more of them operational. They aren't shelters but more like rehab to get people back on their feet and in a home.

Also, the annoying thing is that a lot of people voting for Prop B because of the homeless in parks but that was never legalized. The city manager opted not to enforce the parkland camping ban due to CDC recommendations during the pandemic.

This was a stupid idea that doesn't help the situation at all and increases Austin's risk of wildfires tremendously as these people are forced into hiding in unmonitored wooded areas next to neighborhoods. All hell is going to break out Friday when the parks dept announces potential locations to setup sanctioned camp grounds. No one is going to be happy about it and the downtown alliance is already fighting setting them up in public parks.

If you don't want to California Austin then call your city council member and tell them you support eTOD (density around the coming light rail stations). The lesson to learn from Cali is we desperately need to build denser housing or we are going to see even more extreme poverty.

Not being snarky..... but how well do you know the homeless situation in the USA and what the root causes of homelessness are?
