This really isnt a story IMO I think this happens way more often than people think but it usually doesnt make headlines because of the size of the contract. When we're talking about a guy making nearly 39M next season if he was due 50% of that up front that is a lot of money to just have around and available. We do not if Harden has his payout similar too btw and this is all money before the season has even started.
Harden can do one also. Harden has 168 million remaining in 4 years. WB has 71 million remaining in 4 years. Start at 36M ended at 50M? Weakness: 1. first round picks between 2021 and 2026 2. Huge Payroll
I understand some fans may not like the way Tilman comes off, but calling him cheap makes no sense. Do you think he became a billionaire by wasting money? Self-made rich people (excluding athletes and pop stars) spend their money quite wisely.
I think it made headlines because of Tilman’s previous instances of cutting costs. He has invited this reputation he now has where any money related detail is going to be notable. Anybody else, you’re right. This is a non-story. For Tilman, it is, though, because it’s another instance of him looking to skate money problems wherever possible.
