Pastor Officiates Funeral Of Man He's Accused Of Killing

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- A Missouri murder case is now centered in the Upstate after a pastor wanted in connection with the shooting death of a member of his congregation was found living in Spartanburg County.

David Love, 50, is being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center on a fugitive of justice warrant, according to jail records.

Love was arrested Tuesday night. Spartanburg investigators said they had to tackle Love when he tried to run away from them.

Love was found living in Boiling Springs where investigators said he has relatives.

Love was the leader of New Hope Baptist Church in Independence, Mo. Jackson County authorities said he became a person of interest in a murder case last spring.

Insurance agent Randy Stone was found dead in his Missouri office on March 31. According to the Kansas City Star, Stone was very active in Love's church prior to his death.

WYFF News 4's sister station in Kansas City, KMBC-TV, reported Stone's wife was having an affair with Love prior to his death. The station said relatives also told them Love officiated Stone's funeral at their church and even gave the eulogy.

The month after Stone's death, Missouri detectives executed a search warrant at Love's church and named him a person of interest in the case. Love resigned as pastor and left the area.

Authorities said they have been looking for him ever since.

Love will make his first court appearance at 2 p.m., Wednesday, when a Spartanburg County magistrate will hold a formal hearing.

A jailer told News 4's Sean Muserallo that Love has refused to sign extradition papers. The jail employee told Muserallo it's unclear what will happen at the formal court hearing Wednesday afternoon.
