It has nothing to do with Lin, most of them are pure Rockets fans. As a person, Morey has the right to say anything he wants; but as the GM of Rockets, the most popular NBA organization in China which has gotten lots of sponsorship and endorsements from China, he really shouldn't have done it. It does a huge damage to not only Rockets but also NBA as a whole. China is the second biggest market for NBA after US, not nearly as large as the US market right now but has huge potential as the US market is pretty saturated now. He doesn't really understand what's happening in Hong Kong, he made a big mistake.
OK Chinese people are very PISSED on the internet. Morey will be under a lot of pressure in the upcoming days and probably will need to apologize publicly. But as a Hongkonger, I want to say thank you @dmorey. It takes tremendous amount of courage to say that and HONGKONGERS STAND WITH YOU.

Phrasing is everything. He could easily have prefaced his tweet with, "Daryl's personal views and opinions are his own and not those of the Rockets' organization" or something similar. The tone of his tweet, with how DARYL DOES NOT SPEAK FOR THE ROCKETS, was all wrong (imo).
