They have been had problems since 2002 world tournament. In the game between China and New Zealand(officialed by Boland), Boland called a travel on Yao, Yao thought that was a ridiculous call, so he walked straight to him, and said something like "hell! you do know what a travel is?". at that time Yao didn't know Boland is a NBA ref, and they started not liking each other ever since.
Ah, This is the one that Yao was complaining doesn't like him. The Rocks should make a tape and send it to the NBA front office. Mark Cuban would never stand for this treatment. DD
Tonight's game official. Yao told the media by himself on Dec 13, 2004 that he and Matt Boland have been had problems since 2002 Olympic.
It's not just Boland, though today's game was ridiculous. The league, by default is more geared to all ticky tack (and more) fouls like this on big man as oppossed to athletic guards and swingman. Think about it - if Amare did exactly what Yao did tonight but did it twice as fast with twice as much athleticism, the fouls would have been called the other way - you know, I know it, the whole world knows it.
Good it's a Ref. I thought maybe they were talking about Matt Bullard and translation was a little screwed. BTW what does the article say?
Just calculate Yao's average stats when Matt is the referee, that's how we can determine whether Yao sucked today or else.
David Stern will have to step in at some point - he cannot have his "international product" being ruined in for these cable broadcasts - D Stern, you tell those officials to LET THEM PLAY !!! LET THEM PLAY !!!!

Actually, they send a tape to the league office about this almost every week according to JVG. This has been a constant complaint of the organization since the beginning of this season - Yao doesn't get the same treatment by officials that other players do. From what I understand, they not only send highlights of Rockets games, but send detailed, broken-down tapes that include footage of other players from other teams in games not against the Rockets for comparison purposes. I remember CD saying on a radio show that they have been complaining to the league about this constantly since the preseason. --- BTW, most teams have similar policies. Cuban is just a blowhard who makes it public. Most of the league does it and doesn't have to get fined $100,000 in the process.
hei jeff just checked tonight's game's officals a referee calls Matt Boland had problem with yao since 2002 world tournament ( according to yao's interview from Sina.com) last time we played against nets . he was one of officials yao did foul out at that game and played like a crap
The Rockets organization has made countless tape for the NBA front office but nithing has changed yet. Maybe they want Yao to be more assertive. There is an NBA maxim that states that "aggressive players gets the borderline calls". So let that Cuban talk go into the trash can.
As much as I dislike Cuban, I think you almost have to make a big fuss and tantrum out of this in order for anything to change. Either Yao has to do it himself on the court by getting into fights with the players who continuously hack him and are so blatantly inserted by opposing team coaches just for the sole purpose of hacking him. Or Yao has to call out the refs to the media. Or the Rox front office has to call out the refs to the media - maybe even by ref's names. But the bottomline is, until ESPN or TNT or Fox Sports or AP picks up on this and it's all of a sudden the big buzz around the league, David Stern isn't going to do jackshht.
Just did some reserch. In the 4 games Boland officiated, Yao's average: 13.75 points, 7.5 rebounds, 42.5% shooting, 4PF , all worse than season average.
