We have great drivers and CP3 Melo and even JH are great midrange shooters...we are literally losing games because all we do is jack 3 after 3 with a very low % of makes
There are so many times where the big gets a rebound and could literally get 2 points right there and kicks it out for a brick. This **** needs to stop.
We also are hitting 2's at far below our average. We would probably be even worse if we heeded your advice.
Its the type of threes thats bad. They need to run some offense. The Rockets are not taking the ball to the basket throughout the entire game. They dont attack their shot on the 3 point line they take it in a passive like bail out manner. 2or 3 passes off a drive and kick will get you good threes in rhythm and potentially create easy offense for everyone. This stuff we are doing does not make the defense work, they are opposing their will on us and we lose heart and essentially lose the Game. Coach has got to start coming up with some solutions
You would think 3 above average mid range shooters would showcase that... But the way moreyball overachieved last year, forgettaboutit. But yeah let's contradict ourselves and bring in Melo LOL.
Usually I'm fine with how many 3s we take, but tonight was a perfect example of how I think Harden should not abandon his midrange game he used to be decent at. When you're like 1 for 8 from 3 and missing several layups, what's the harm is shooting a few 18 footers?
Now that the league is adapting Houston's 3pt happy offense, maybe it's time for the Rockets to buck a trend again.
If Harden mixes in his midrange stepback we win tonight easy ...and Gordon is now jacking 3s from way behind the line... used to be standing maybe a foot behind the line. It’s not a smart offense and easy to defend specially having 2 years to study it and it’s now being copied.
why do you believe that Harden and Carmelo are great midrange shooters? So far this year Paul is shooting 43% from midrange. That's the equivalent of 28% on Three Pointers. Harden is shooting 40% from midrange. That's the equivalent of 26.4% on Three Pointers. Carmelo is shooting 40% from midrange. That's also equivalent to 26.4% on Three Pointers. Our 3 point shooting has sucked so far this year but it's still way more efficient than what we've shot from midrange. In the 3 prior seasons, Harden shot 36.9%, 41.1% and 40.5% from midrange. Anthony shot 39.3%,45.4% and 44.5%. How do you get "great midrange shooters" from that? We're shooting 31.7% from 3. To get equivalent efficiency, we'd need to shoot 47.55% from midrange. Neither Harden or Carmelo has shot that well from midrange in the last 4 seasons. CP3 has shot better than that twice. People seem to assume that a) players shoot midrange much better than they do. b) that when a team is shooting badly from behind the arc that they will somehow still be able to shoot the midrange well. Here's the reason that every team is taking so many 3's nowdays: Last season, the league wide average on 3 pointers was 36.2%. That means that you'd have to shoot 54.3% from midrange to be equally efficient. Exactly 2 guys in the entire league (Steph Curry and Mike Scott) shot midrange at a percentage that good. In fact, only 6 players in the entire league shot midrange at over 50% (Curry, Scott, CP3, Trey Burke, Gorgui Dieng, T.J. McConnell). That 50% from midrange is equivalent to 33% from behind the arc and is a number that most consider poor. It's nice to say that it's as simple as players taking midrange shots but the math just doesn't work out. When you're getting one and a half the points from behind the arc, there's almost nobody who can shoot the midrange well enough to make it an equivalent or better efficiency shot.
