Witness: Ex-Knicks VP spoke about Thomas' slurs

NEW YORK (AP) -- Just months after berating her in expletive-filled tirade, New York Knicks coach Isiah Thomas moved from cursing to courting a fellow executive now suing the basketball Hall of Famer for sexual harassment, a former team employee testified Tuesday.

Jeffrey Nix, a 15-year employee of the NBA team, took the stand in U.S. District Court to recount a series of conversations he had with his friend and co-worker, plaintiff Anucha Browne Sanders, throughout 2004.

Sanders, in tones of disgust, detailed how Thomas initially treated her with contempt shortly after his December 2003 arrival in New York, Nix testified.

At one meeting meant to resolve any issues between Sanders and Thomas, the two-time NBA champion guard lashed out at her by announcing, "Don't forget, you f------ b****, I'm the president of this f------- team," Nix said his friend told him.

Browne Sanders also told Nix, he testified, that Thomas had asked her in March 2004, "What the f--- is your job? What are your job responsibilities, you f------- ho?"

By the end of the year, though, Nix testified that he saw Thomas embracing Browne Sanders in Madison Square Garden after a Knicks' victory -- and watched as his friend pushed the coach away.

"You're not going to believe what he just said," Nix quoted Browne Sanders as saying. "He just said, 'I'm in love with you. It's like love and basketball."'

Browne Sanders is suing Thomas and Madison Square Garden for $10 million in a sexual harassment suit that also seeks reinstatement to the job that she held for five years with the once-storied franchise that won its last title in 1973.

Thomas, who has denied the allegations, sat with his hands folded in front of his face at the defense table, tilted his head slightly and listened intently as Nix testified. Nix, who held a variety of bench and front office jobs with the Knicks, was let go by the Thomas regime at the end of August.

Nix said Sanders was upset and confused by Thomas' switch from verbally abusive to amorous. When the two spoke in spring 2005, Nix recalled Sanders telling him, "It went from last year b**** and ho to now he's in love with me."

Sanders, a married mother of three and former Northwestern basketball star, joined the Knicks in late 2000. The vice president of marketing and business operations was fired in January 2006; she claimed the dismissal came after she complained to MSG management.

The Garden claims she was dismissed for a failure to "fulfill professional responsibilities."

Nix appeared one day after jurors watched a videotaped deposition where Thomas insisted that he had never cursed at the plaintiff. During the questioning, Thomas also said he would find it more offensive if a white male called a black female a "b****," than if a black male made the same comment.

"It's like Love and Basketball" what does that mean? or was that a reference to a very bad movie?

looks like everyone is taking the stand. So far, I like marburry's testimonial the best.

HOT SEAT: MSG will call Kathleen Decker,
the ex-Knick intern Stephon Marbury (above) said
he had sex with in a truck, to the stand.

September 14, 2007 -- The former Knick intern whose sordid sex encounter with hoops star Stephon Marbury was laid bare in federal court this week has agreed to take one for the team.

Lawyers representing Madison Square Garden plan to call Kathleen Decker, 24, to give her version of a conversation with former Knick executive Anucha Browne Sanders about the co-ed's racy romp in the star point guard's truck, sources said.

Marbury admitted in Manhattan federal court on Wednesday that he scored with the intern in April 2005 after brashly asking her, "Are you going to get in the truck?"

"Yes" was the answer, according to the married Knick, who admitted to having subsequent steamy meetings with the intern.

Decker, who was also romantically linked to Marbury's cousin, waited until November 2005 to tell supervisors about her fling with the point guard, and he was never questioned.

In the meantime, Decker graduated from St. John's University and landed a job in the communications department for the Garden of Dreams Foundation.

Described by co-workers as "pretty" and a "great girl," the perky publicist appeared on the CBS show "Power of 10" last month - blowing a possible $10 million win by underestimating how many married Americans stay in love.

Garden lawyers have hinted that Decker could finger Sanders for allegedly forcing her to lodge the internal complaint.

Sanders is suing Knick coach Isiah Thomas and the Garden for sexual harassment in a $10 million case now under way.

Contacted by phone, Decker's mother told a reporter, "I have nothing to say to you."

The Garden refused to say whether it has a policy related to players socializing with interns.

But a former intern who worked with Decker told The Post it was a "major no-no."

"They definitely encouraged us not to. I think anyone who wanted to keep a position there abided by those rules," said Mia Welsh, 29.

Decker is also on Sanders' witness list, but it's not clear whether her lawyers will also call her.

An ex-MSG staffer recalled that rumors had swirled about Marbury and an intern - and wasn't surprised to hear it turned out to be Decker.

"Guys were very, very after her, and why not? She is very pretty," the former employee said. "Everyone was after her . . . because she was cute."

A self-described "roller-skate limbo champion," Decker made two appearances on "Power of 10."

She was eliminated after she missed the answer to the question, "What percentage of married Americans said they do not currently love their spouse at least as much as they did on their wedding day?"

Decker locked in a range of 15 to 55 percent, but the answer was 9 percent.

    That was a bit graphic.

So are they saying that Decker had complained about sexual harassment as well?

No, it appears that she consented to get it on with Starbury, but the defense attorneys are saying that the lady who is suing the Knicks tried to force her to file a complaint of sexual harrassment. She refused.

She is claiming that Deke sexually harrassed her, but her lawsuit itself is against the employer, Knicks/MSG.

Isiah has so much baggage. He did a good job as GM in Toronto- drafted Marcus Camby-helped that franchise- until ownership changed and he was out. He had a lifetime job with a small portion of ownership with Detroit-that did not last. He bankrupted the minor league-did damage in Indiana
