On a scale from 1 to 10 how do you rate your 2004 in comparison to years past? 7 Family and career were both blessings for me, but I had a bout with depression earlier this year that really took me aback. The damn "sticky" thing didn't help much either.
10.0 Greatest year of my life career-wise (significant upward mobility and thus the most financially prosperous year of my entire life.) I can only hope 2005 can top this somehow.
A depressed comedian... hey that's gotta get a gig somewhere. Anyway, I give my year a 10. I'm still breathing, got a new house, a step closer to retiring, stable job, etc., etc. Can't complain.
1 Worst year I can remember ever because of the following: Lost my grandmother/grandfather(WWII vet) in span of a year; lost my grandfather just after Thanksgiving My mother's health took a turn for the worse during the year with extended stay in hospital; x-mas eve was an emergency room visit and she spent x-mas morning in the hospital; not sure of her future as health seems to fluctuate at will; cause of a lot of continuing worry and stress It's hard to say you had a good year when you lose family members and family members suffer from health issues. I would rate this the worst year of my life personally. The war in Iraq doesn't help as it is constantly depressing news coming out of there.
7 for me - lost 2 family members and there are still some things that I wish were different about my life, but it is immaterial in the grand scheme of things. However, for one of my family members, death was a good thing as her quality of life was very sh!tty to say the least. And for my other grandmother, she lived a great and long life and was at peace with her fate. If I was closer to both of them, maybe this goes down to a 4 or so. But I am happy, despite missing them, that they are at peace. I have my health, a great family, wonderful dog, good job, and much more. Worst year for me had to be 1999 which I say was a 2. Quit a job after a week, went through a bad breakup, thought about suicide (albeit briefly) - I was at a low point for sure.
You have climbed 5 points in just 5 years! Hopefully some "2's" will read your post and be encouraged...I am.
haha on a related note, mullets are making a comback. did you know the female mullet is in style in the UK?
I female mullets ever become the style in the US, I will be abstaining from sex until they go out of style.
9.5 Bought my first house! Got 2 promotions and 1 raise at work. I finally have a career instead of just a job. I've never been able to say that....ever. My band has had a more lucrative (and fun) year than ever before. 2005 is looking even better. Only downside has been all my car problems. Man, I've forked over a lot of cash fixing that damn thing this year. EDIT: Forgot to mention Sam Houston State winning the Southland Conference and making it to the semifinals of the I-AA playoffs. Thanks again for sending us Dustin Long, Aggies.
3 Mothers health bad all year, gambling/drinking problem worsening, unable to find more than 30 hours a week work consistantly. Worst year since the one I spent a Houston summer without electricity as a teenager. On the plus side am reigning in my vices. So mayhap next year will be better. Plus Mom is tough as a tank, so I don't think she is going anywher Cancer and Strokes be damned.
I guess I could give it a 7 or 8. Maybe a 7.5 (using a little math there). Pros: SNOW!!!! I've been bonding more with my nephew. Used to be scared that I wouldn't know what to do with him, but I've developed a little bond with him and hope to start a little earlier with my new niece (another pro). Started learning a lot about the video game industry, and hope maybe I could use what I learned for a possible career one day. On a related note, the PSP having a good price, MP3 playability, ok battery life, and good games has interested me since I'm thinking about getting it. Probably more a pro for next year since I wouldn't get it until then, but I liked the news. Took 2 college classes in HS (and preparing for 2-3 more next semester) and I think I did pretty well in them...plus, I love not doing anything at school 2 days a week in those class persiods. Don't know if this is a pro, but my Government college class also got me into politics a little bit, something I didn't want to bother with. I found myself watching the election a little more than I expected myself to. Cons: Snow went away... Mom lost her job at a stupid bank for a stupid reason. Probably a pro though since working there was stressing her out. My brother-in-law is still lazy and practically worthless. A couple of my family's relatives died. I didn't really know them, in fact I think my parents barely knew them, but it was still pretty sad. My ACT and SAT scores were a little lower than I wanted them to be. I'm also slipping a bit in my math classes (Calculus and Physics). The Cowboys sucked and the Rockets sort of started out the same way. Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children keeps getting delayed and looks to be coming out next year instead of this year, which I believe was the original release year, or close to it (can't remember if late '03 was the original). I sort of went a little overboard on the info. I was thinking about saying that I ate some great steaks on March 3rd (pro), but I stubbed my toe on September 18th (con).
7 Started out really rough, split up with the girlfriend of 3 years about this time last year... today may actually be one full year ago... still thinking about her more than I should be... But plenty of other girls have showed interest in me and I got an incredibly great job with HP over the summer and got my GPA back up to 3.5 at UT after this last semester. And if I stop thinking about just myself I realize all my family is still in good health, my grandmother especially, who is getting up there in age, so perhaps I should rate it higher, things could have been much much worse.
