There is nothing offensive or damaging about what Yao said in this interview. The only thing that can be misunderstood is the the translation of Chinese to English. Those who are bilingual know that sometime it's pretty difficult to find the proper english phrases to illustrate the exact meaning of another language.
do you really think Yao doesn't realize that the talk between them will be published? I don't think Yang dares to publish it on the web without Yao's consent.
I think you guys have to remember IF Kobe schools Jordan, hes gonna be joking around with his friends that he took Jordan to school. However, telling that to the media is another story. I think this is what Ming is doing, hes joking around and actually being himself without the scrunity of the American media.
OK guys, this is getting a bit crazy. I just called ÑîÒã and his cellphone is switched off. Will try again in about one hour to let you know the authenticity of that interview.
I wonder how long it will be before these interviews somehow get back to the other players. I think Yao is completely right. However, if the players turn against each other... things are only going to get worse. At first, I thought the idea of building around Yao alone was ludicrous. Now I wonder if it would be a good idea to cash in on Francis and see what we can get that would compliment Yao. Yao's younger, taller, and smarter than Francis.
CLUTCHCITY.NET Exclusive: I called ÑîÒã again. I asked him point blank: ¡°Did you make up the interview with YAO ?¡± He was upset£º" What ?!! I made it up ? so many interviews ?! I have known YAO for many years and am his good friend. We often talk after the games, sometimes he calls me, sometimes I call him. " we went on to talk for another 10 min. He is probably in the restaurant because the background is quite noisy, but I can still tell his tone, IMHO, the interview was genuine.I could be wrong, but it's too much a risk to fabricate any materials regarding YAO & him, given the intense scrutiny around YAO and ROCKETS. If anybody still doubts Yang Yi', poor guy will have to release an official statement. Now, carayip, RocketForever, et al, ya happy?
I can recall most of our conversation. But to tape it, it would be .... urgh.... I did not expect the call to be that long, but had I taped it, I think I might get into trouble "........... California prohibits telephone monitoring or recording, including the use of information obtained through interception unless all parties to the conversation consent. Cal. Penal Code Secs. 631, 632. There is no statutory business telephone exception and the relevant case law all but excludes this possibility. California courts have recognized "implied" consent as being sufficient to satisfy the statute where one party has expressly agreed to the taping and the other continues the conversation after having been informed that the call is being recorded. Violation is punishable by a fine of up to $2,500, imprisonment for not more than one year, or both. A civil plaintiff may recover the greater of $3,000 or three times the amount of any actual damages sustained.
I need to learn Chinese. I don't trust these translations. I don't think Yao would ever say 'we suck' if we don't beat toronto because they don't have a true center. I think he would know that you don't need a true center to win a basketball game.
I can read Chinese. Ming didn't say "we suck". Trust me, he never swears even in these types of "interviews".
I think the plain translation of what Yao said is " That team doesn't have a center, we will be speechless if we still can't win".
if you have read the old interviews by YangYi when Yao was playing for Shanghai Sharks, you will know it's absolutely real.
hey, ppl here if you are not sure about your Chinese, please don`t do some inaccurate translation, it will only cause misunderstanding. If this interview is true, I think this Yang Yi is quite familiar with Yao ming, because it was like casual talks between friends. Also Yao said some jokes, which i don`t think one can understand if he is not a native Chinese(I am). The first sentence of the last paragraph should be "That team doesn`t have a center, if we even lose it again then we are futureless."(No swear in the sentence)
This interview is a good read - Yao did not say anything wrong. Marvelling after getting the better of Wallace is alright, after all, Wallace has always had the better of him. It's like your young brother bragging after he did something that he is proud of, Yao deserves some bragging rights ;-) When the Rockets kept on losing, something to stir it up can actually be great. Well, anything that might bring about some changes, however slight, is a step in the right direction. Lets not worry about Yao's image - noone on a losing team has a positive image, anyway... He is only human and a young kid at that. Soulsong999
Totally agree on that. I would like to add that if you are not sure about your Chinese OR English, please be very careful about providing the translation. Inaccurate translation may cause some misunderstanding.
What image are you guys worrying about? He says what he sees the problem is (actually everybody sees the problem except Rox backcourt dude). He is not bashing any teammate. He is not lying. He takes blame if he makes mistakes. Is that what you want your kids to be like? I do not want him to be like so many american that tell lies all the time for their damn image.
I saw some brilliant statistical analysis in another thread on the correlation between Rocket's wins/losses and assists. Maybe someone can do an analysis on the number of lies told by kids according to their geographical differences. Surely, there must be some data out there that will support Mr. Chang's claim? Seriously... I am not really worried about Yao's image. He comes across as a nice kid and a nice kid needs to be humane and has his own shortcomings. Don't be so sensitive. Don't generalise a whole nation of kids just because of that! Soulsong999
