Great move and aggresiveness by Yao, I loved the intensity.

Too bad it was a charge. I saw some people arguing against the charge but I watched this clip several times and it looks like Battier has both feet set and he is clearly squared up before Yao runs into him.

Looks like an easy call to me. It was a charge.

did not look like battier's right foot was set. Nonetheless, battier is pretty stupid for trying to take a charge from someone that outweighs him by 100 pounds. He was knocked into next week
He should have shown respect and moved the fawk out of the way.

I wonder how much respect Batt-man has now for Yao.

    Exactly!!
Especially when your team is up for 20 plus and the person running into you is your teammate in the future.
What is more, Who doesn't want to see center dribling and score

Show respect for what? Because it's Yao Ming?

    because it's China?

Because they're up 20 points or so?

Nope, not a charge. Battier did not have time to establish position- he was in front of Yao and completely stationary by less than 1 second before Yao ran into him. That's a blocking foul. Great try by Battier, though.

I thought it was clearly a charge. You have to give the offensive player room to change direction and Yao clearly had such space. Battier is a beast  I'm gonna love watching him play for us this year.

Any objective fan could see that it was a charge... You said it yourself, "he was in front of Yao and completely stationary . . . ." That's all a charge requires... I would be willing to wager that if you run that play by every NBA ref, the overwhelming majority, if not all, of them would call it a charge...

You can say it was silly to try that considering the circumstances... but you can't say that moving out of the way is "showing respect." Playing the game hard, and playing the game the right way is the ultimate way of "showing respect" to the game...

Other than this play, there were several plays in the game in which he was going at Yao. I was like you fool take it easy, the last thing we want to see Battier and Yao injures each other.

International rules probably are different than NBA so its hard to say for sure but... By NBA rules of today, that was a charge. But 5 years ago, that is a blocking foul.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of some of these new NBA rules like the phantom hand-check calls and these instant charging calls.

All that said, great play by Battier! I can't wait to see him do that on our team!!!

in the nba, maybe that's a blocking foul, but in international ball, which is called a lot more like college ball (which isn't good), that's a charge. they call it much more favorably to the defender.

When the contact took place, Yao was neither in the air nor released the ball, I guess that was a charge.

Although the first thing came out of my mind at that time was, 'Damn you, Battier! You ruined the show!'.

Battier is very brave indeed. He must have been knocked out 8 feet away.

haha @ Yao, I don't know if JVG would like a 7 ft 6 center dribblin the ball up court doing crossovers

Obviously it's a charge. But you got to love a 7'6" 300+ pounder grabbing a nice steal, then taking it out on a break like a mack truck and crossing a guy over, for a near coast to coast score.
