This is my second rockets TV game
    I saw yao play
I don't understand why he play so passively
Is it the team not feeding him the ball
All i saw is he always hang around in the high post
plus....there's one play where he demanded the ball
but moochie decided to shoot it himself (not clean shot)

He should assert himself into the offensive end.
man....he should be demanding the ball at all time....
i'm serious.....rockets are playing isolation again.
yao attract so much attention that he is on the left wing.
literally four guys tend to be on his side.....leading to the isolation.

When are the rockets gonna play yao more often.
For god sake....this guy is 5/6 tonight

They can't get him the ball when he's fronted. His points were mostly off of offensive rebounds and free throws. So the only thing he can do is go out on the high post and set picks.
I think he's also getting fed up with those lame foul calls, ESPECIALLY when he get hammered time and time again on the other end. He finally sent one guy to the floor- like I had hoped he would.

Yao playing passively is still better than 90% of the players in the NBA. A better term for his play is selfless.

I know we should probably be discussing this in the game thread, but regardless, I think it bears mentioning.

I noticed the same thing. He also seemed a bit lost out there in the first quarter.

He's really incredible, and I'm so happy to have him.....but he's not the Messiah. He does have some learning to do.

But then again, so do the rest of the Rockets.

I watched this game in the arena. It is very puzzling that Yao is not dominating, yet still he got a double-double! I just want to see what he can do once he gets more strength in the upper body.

I can tell it is difficult to give him the ball in the post. The spacing is not right. There are always some defenders around him. It is not that simple to just lob the ball to him. Also Yao's hands are still not very strong yet to hold the ball tightly.

Yao Ming is doing just fine....so relax y'all!:) I think he's just being too much of a team player!! The nice thing about him that if he wants to, he can be an awesome scoring machine & I think he knows it;) ! He's also learning & growing as an NBA player, just like a rookie!!! Be patient & enjoy the ride! GO ROCKETS!!!!!!

i think Yao hanging out there because he doesn't want to being
call for the 3s , he won't get any balls. that's why sometimes he is a bit lose. he just run and grab Reb

If this is what being a team player is, I never want one on the Rockets. Yao shoots a better % than any other player on the Rockets. He has the only true post game. He's the best passer on his team. He needs to be far more assertive, and Moochie and the other role players need to surrender some shots. Francis and Yao should be able to shoot all they want. Everyone else needs to feed off of their play.

If anyone else can figure out why the offense isn't being run through him, let me know...

What game were you watching? Yao had 12 boards and 5 blocked shots. That sounds pretty agressive to me.

    :D :D :D :D :D

Fans want more from Yao, that's understandable. Please be patient, he's still a rookie, and you want to play team ball to gain the trust from teammates first.

Next year he'll definitely be our 2nd option. Then maybe 1st option the year after.

I think if Yao heard your comments about his passiveness, he'd punch you in the face!

He had to deal with his most physical defender since the world championships and besides getting wrongfully thrown down to the floor three or four times, he came out of it looking pretty tough. But for all his efforts, his guards simply refused to give him the ball. If Yao were Charles Barkley, I think Steve, Cat, and Mooch would be asking their bodyguards to not leave their sides for the next couple of days. With 8 offensive boards, 5 blocks, a number of forearms to the back and elbows to ribs, Yao was not passive!

Well said..........Yao is not forcing anything. He's exceeded everyone's expectations this year, yet he's a rookie and a foreign player adjusting to NBA play. He will be fine. Worry about the rest of the league when he gets stronger next year.

Yao is really the teams point guard. It's not that he's passive, it's that he realizes that if he played like everyone else, the team would be more chaotic than it already is. So yao decides to sacrafice himself and set up everyone else and just score his points on put backs of his teamates misses.
