in The 4th quater of a close game, Yao is pretty much always doubled teamed even without the ball. It's pretty hard for him to make shots, but he can make plenty of plays for other people. They really should run a Yao and brooks PnR, that would be unstoppable.
Whoa whoa there, I NEVER blamed the loss on Yao. I'm just saying we can't rely on Yao in the last few minutes when the game is on the line. I blame TONIGHT's loss on our guard play and lack of defense as a team when we needed it. But i've seen time and time again the same play of going directly to Yao when we need points. That is not the solution to win the game. Again, i do NOT blame Yao for this loss.
BINGO when Yao is front that means the baskets is open go Rafer that was the reason we where wining. Rafer just revert to the old Rafer once again. And I have no words to describe the fastbreak defense. This loss was Embarrassing. We now have to win next game to SA pls T-Mac get back this team id loosing the momentum.
You are absolutely right. When 4 guys are guarding him he has difficulty scoring. Oh and did I mention you are an idiot.
What you post seems to blame the loss on Yao. But How many big men can be the clutch ? They have to play defense then get doulbled. At this time we badly need a penetrator,a decent shooter. That will be a better choice.Just look at the Spurs, how I envy the help TD gets !
I can't think of any center as a reliable clutch time player, Shaq in his prime hit one or two game winning shots and that's about it. The big guys need guards to feed them the ball, they just can't create their own opportunities like Kobe or MJ. Especially with rules these days, that they are allowed to be gangbanged by two or three defenders even w/o the ball. In clutch time, most team would be forced to take jump shots more often, this is normal. But you can't allow layups in the other end, which is the main reason Rockets lost today.
The most famous Shaq clutch shot was an alley-op dunk to win the 2000 finals which was a lob by Kobe after driving and drawing a double team so your point is well taken, big guys need to be setup to do well in the clutch.
Honestly, Yao didn't shrink back and kept shooting during crunch time. Although he didn't make a shot, he still should be commended. Someday, he will make some big shots. Be patient!
I don't understand why we have to keep going to Yao when the defense is geared to stop Yao and we keep pissing away the 24 shot clock or constantly turn the ball over time after time trying to do that. Try something else for christsakes. and in the rare chances we do get the ball to Yao late in the 4th qtr in a tight game where he knows we need this basket but he knows the 24shot clock is close to 0, he naturally rushes his shots. And he's been missing those late 4th qtr shots where he knows we need it to win the games lately.
Because we don't have enough talent on the team for other players to create there own shot. Other teams can guard us 3 on 4 and we can't make them pay. Period.
From the team records, YAO did miss shots at crunch. But you can't jump into the conclution that it's all YAO's problem to miss them. Let's face the fact here: Our offense stop running everytime when we're trailing in the end of the game. All the sudden, everyone has only one choice: pass the ball to the most efficent player of our team-YAO. Then it's the time all the turnovers happens because it's so easy for the defenders to block the passes to YAO when everyone is trying to make a direct entry pass to him insteat of running the offense patiently to find a good timing to pass when he's in the right position. When YAO got the ball, all the pressure fall on him and he couldn't pass the ball back to others because others just stand still watching him to make shots rather than making cuts or trying to get a open shot position. YAO has no choice but shooting the ball under pressure and intensive defense. You can't put that label on YAO just because he missed the clutch shots. I believe Tmac couldn't help us either under the same situation. Remeber the last game we lost to Utah last year? All I'm saying is we need 5 to win game no matter how good 1 of them is!
Gee what do the Rockets do in the first three quarters when Yao is pressured? Start him out on the weak side and swing the ball to him along the perimeter. What do the Rockets do in the fourth quarter when Yao is pressured? Throw the ball directly in to him in the low post and get the pass picked off a lot. If he's being fronted just stand there with the ball above your head while he fights for position and the shot clock winds down. Then pass the ball to some random guy, Yao, Battier, it doesn't matter. There's not really any time to try to set up a shot by that point. Can we please get some new freaking guards here?
As expected, Yao haters come out in droves after this. Just like T-Mac haters came out after the win streak. The hate makes them overlook the bad plays of our guards.
actually, it was the "other" players because they couldn't get the ball to yao, it's not yaos fault they threw it right into the sixers hands, i was watching and i remember i pocession when yao had good position, luther decided to not pass and wait for a lil bit until dalembert got to the front of yao, then he decides to shoot a three and of course, misses it. so no its not yao's fault
