Um in case you didn't notice, Yao is CHINESE. China raised him and trained him to be the player he is today. They have every right to call on their best player to play for them in international competition. Its not like Yao doesn't want to play either, he shows lots of pride playing for his country. Something a lot of American players need to learn. Typical American attitude to claim everything thats successful theirs...if Yao was a bum you'd all be saying send him back to China. Give me a break.
ibm, les had nothing to do with morey not getting yao a backup. I've squaked about this for awhile and posters make it seem like I don't know what I see. At the end of last season, the number 1 priority shouldve been getting a third scoring option a yao a backup. How did signing barry fit either of those? Instead of giving barry 1.9, they couldve signed magloire, elson,or ratliff for 1.2m Mbenga and anderson signed for 790k and jordan was drafted after dorsey. As a gm, its as important to have roster balance as it is to have roster balance.
The Rockets needed a 3-point shooting wing; that was a higher priority than another big considering we had Scola and Landry and minutes would be scarce at that position anyways. If the Rockets knew, before hand, that Von Wafer would be a player, they may have spent on a backup C. Not knowing that, it would have been a gamble.
yeah... but we also lost deke in the portland series, didn't we? some things, you just can't possibly foresee how they will unfold.
according to Friedman's twitter page: "Yao gametime decision. Did not practice today. 17 minutes ago from TwitterBerry"
i think either this is good news or bad news...eitehr Yao is ok and they are just making Lakers guess if he is playing or not....that is common with teams and game planning... or worse case scenario: he is not going to play and rockets want to sell their remianing ticket inventory and then will announce before the game that Yao is out...business decision... i wonder if the players are doing interviews today...we willbe able to tellmore with yao interview....
http://www.insidehoops.com/blog/?p=4310 Yao Ming out injured for rest of NBA playoffs May 9, 2009 · Filed Under Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, News Rockets center Yao Ming has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2009 NBA Playoffs after further diagnostic procedures conducted today revealed a small hairline fracture in his left foot. The finding is in addition to the earlier diagnosis of a left ankle sprain that he sustained during Friday night’s 108-94 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals playoff series. While no surgery is needed, the expected recovery timeline is between eight to 12 weeks. “Yao Ming had an initial test taken in the early morning hours on Saturday following the game,” said Rockets Team Physician Dr. Tom Clanton. “The original diagnosis of the left ankle sprain was based on the results of that test. Further diagnostic procedures performed later in the day, revealed a hairline fracture on the top of his left foot. In order for the bone to heal properly, Yao will need to immobilize the foot by wearing a walking boot. No surgery is required and he should be able to resume his regular workout routine sometime between the next eight to 12 weeks.”
yea that is confirmed he is out for the rest of the playoffs........wow what do the rockets have to do to catch a break
Disagree. After the 3rd scorer, protecting ur biggest investment was next. When ur center drops 90 games in 3 yrs, how can a bench player like barry makes more sense? Landry and scola are small 4's, so how can they man the 5? Even if u bring deke back, he shouldve been the 3rd center. One of those guys I talked about all summer shouldve been the 2nd center. Doesn't matter cause morey dosent look at height anyway.
