this is what yao's build looks like right now:

seriously, the dude needs to lift weights or something. i'm tired of people like theo ratliff and ostertag dunks on his buttocks. if he doesn't i see no reason at all why we should build a team around him.

he has the potential (not the eddie griffin kind of "potential") to be the best center. just needs to put forth the effort.

why are there so many damn threads about "yao needs to do this..." or "yao needs to do that..."??? Do we seriously think he doesn't WANT to get better? Do we take him to be some lazy ass or something?

Has he done stuff to show that he isn't willing to put forth the effort? Has he done anything that has made you doubt his work ethic?

common...just let him handle his business.

dn1282, i'm doubting EVERYONE on the team... including yao. just because he's the league's golden boy right now doesn't make him exempt from some of the blame. he's part of the team. perhaps, the biggest part of the team... figuratively and literally.

he and steve are the backbones of this team from here on out. the rox management, i'm sure, will make a few changes in the offseason to get their point clear to the players. so, if the management is going to make the changes, these two guys are going to have to up their game AND work ethic. hopefully china won't interfere with yao's. i'd like to see yao bulk up kinda like kobe did during the offseason.

he definitely needs to get stronger. they even said on nba2night, that yao definitely is not as strong as sabonis right now.

but remember kevin garnett couldn't even post up sean elliot in his rookie year, so there is hope. garnett's stats were even worse than yao's in his rookie year if i remember correctly. so if yao can get stronger, he'll be better. but i doubt he'll ever be a great player like garnett since he just will never get a rest. if he gets a couple months rest and gets away from the media scrutiny, he has a chance.

O/S :- Yao Ming is neither a woman nor is he black! Your suggestion that this lady is representative of Yao Ming is disgusting and unaccptable. You need to keep up with things, Yao Ming has been working out all season and is much stronger now! PS Also I would get yourself checked out, you have bizarre interests! A psychiatric reading might be very revealing!

I've always thought that Yao should maybe do some natural excercises like rowboating, Running in the snow, chopping Wood, pulling people on bicycles.. you know natural workouts like Rocky Balboa did when training to fight the Russian. That would help more than the Ivan Drago like training methods those China national team trainers use.

sweet idea. screw the ivan drago training method. we should definitely follow the toughman style training.

the superimposed pic of yao is very, very scary too!

sigh... yetti always comes down on me pretty hard.

yetti, why do you refer to me as O/S:- all the time? it seems harder than just typing "omega" or plainly "og" (well... forget the latter. i don't bling bling enough).

anyway, i know that i over-exaggerate (is that one or two words?) a lot, but it's just to get my point across. larry brown was right in saying that "yao has a strong base but has the upper body of todd maccollough." i don't even think yao has that much. i'm a big yao fan, but if he's to contend in this league and having people respect him instead of dunking on him all the time (i can't remember anyone dunking on shaq lately... he'd lay them flat on their assprin) he had better get started. anthony falsone should get the guy on some kind of advanced protein and weight lifting program. i can't see the difference in his upper body from the beginning of the season to the end (hopefully the season isn't over yet).

china is not like russia. yao does not train like ivan drago. if he did, he'd be using steroids and he could kill shaq like ivan killed apollo creed. avoid using fictional characters for comparisons.

yao is skinny as he!!. most of the chinese players have their rib cage showing. they're not eating enough protein. most of chinese diet consist of vegetables.

the chinese national team's workouts are just too long that's all. their training methods are not modern enough.

about that altered photo, yao looks like a tranvestite.

Goldberg needs to do something to keep Yao in the US, using the SARS scare as excuse or whatever.

Quit acting like you're his girlfriend. If you take issue to that photo you have serious problems. A lot of players get photoshoped on this board, its just a joke.

actually the closest comparison for upper body build that looks like yao's is reggie miller's. they're both too skinny. but reggie's a shooting guard so he can get away with it.

whatever Ballyes Boy,,go to your modern gym then, with your commie trainers, your electric muscle monitors and your late night bicep shock therapy.

I guess the updated muscle machines make a man so tough that he cant even say hell, he says he!!. whatever Hanz.

    kidding with ya. ;)

ok my take on yao and strength is that he has gained a lot over the course of this season however he still doesn't use what he has. he SHOULD be able to back down more guys with that huge lower body of his but he doesnt. he needs to work on his aggressiveness more than anything else, including strength training.

I know, right. Taking amino acids, drinking mega shakes and working with digitized weight equipment is not going to cut it. Let that girly man Shaq work indoors with his slave trainers Hans and Frans. But Yao needs to get his ass out in nature and lay an ax to some wood or go mountain biking in the Mongolian mountains.. Balboa style.. thats the only way.

Yao needs to live with Menke Bateer for a while and figure out what he's eating. That dude is strong as hell... moved Elton Brand around like a little boy in the post during the WCs.
