I know Kobe is having a great year. So as Lebron ang KG. Chris Paul is also one of the frontrunners for MVP. But why no mention of Yao? Rockets have a great record and we all know how VALUABLE Yao is to this team. He is also player of the month for November and January and if you ask me he should also win player of the month for February because we are undefeated this month. Maybe its time for all Rox fans over there in Houston to chant MVP on our home games. :)

LOL Good Answer. The Rockets team deserves MVP. Yao should be one of the candidates but that's all. This is Kobe's year.

zero chance. kobe, lebron, and paul have been playing out of their minds. I think Kobes gonna win it this year no matter what cause (i cant believe this) he still hasnt won an mvp. yao hasnt been dominant as he was last year, etc. its fine with me tho, ever since dirk won it, its become somewhat tainted to me.

IMO, MVP is mainly based on team's record. with very little regard of the stats a particular player put up. Yao would have a decent chance if Rocket end up with the number 1 seed in the west by the end of the season (and given that Yao keep his season avg). But the vote will most likely be slip between Yao and T-mac, so neither of them would have a "decent" chance at taking the season MVP, and considering the tough competition this year with chris paul, garnet, kobe, etc.

ps. I think this thread gonna turn into a flame war :p

Yeah, I don't think Yao will win MVP until he can overcome teams taking him out of games. Add to that, as roffle just said, if TMac starts playing like he did at the beginning of the year, and like he is now, it's even harder for Yao to stand out on this team.

I think I speak for most of this board when I say, screw the MVP, if it means just a CHANCE at rings.

The biggest difference is the insertion of Scola into the starting lineup. Then there's the increased chemistry and the new comfort with the offense.

I'd say T-Mac turning it on, while still important, is somewhere down around 4 or 5 on the list.

I think that Tmac should win month MVP for Feburary. Even I am Yao big fan.
only If Rocket will rank 1st in the west, Yao probably will have the chance to win year MVP.

I would say Tmac's shooting is 4-5 on the list. His assertiveness and making the right passes and plays is VERY high on that list.

Although the MVP the last couple of years has gone to a player on the team with the most regular season wins (Dirk, Nash), generally that idea is fallacious. This year LeBron is the clear frontrunner and his team has no chance of being near the top in wins. And besides, even if it were decided that way, Kobe would be heads and shoulders above Yao. He jumps. Yao doesn't.
