If Yao has such a soft shot from anywhere inside the arc, then why not let Yao shot a few three's like he had to this game. He may not be aggressive to some in the paint but i bet he has one killer shot from the arc

He sucks at three pointer. He got one 3 doesnt mean he's good from that range.

He makes one shot and now you think he's a three point shooter? Ugh. Have you watched him shoot an 18 footer? He's not very good from that range.

Who did he beat? Chuck, Scola, Deke, Landry? Anyone else that he could beat?

Yeah, that's the problem. If Yao is shooting from the 3 point line, then who is rebounding?

I remeber Red Auerbach geting pissed at Russell practicing outside shooting and telling him that he didn't want him shooting outside. He told him that they had much better natural shooters than him that could make the shot more consistently and with him outside it left the inside open for the other team to grab the rebounds.

Every once in a while (a la tonight) when the clock is running down - it may not be a bad shot, but to try to move him out of position (from under the basket) to take a 3 IMHO is a huge mistake.

Are we suppose to jam Hayes in the middle of the paint to draw open spot for Yao to make 3s??

Well, I hope you're not serious.

The only reason why Yao made that 3 today was as he said he had no other options as the shot clock was running dry, after Aaron Brooks dribbled and dribbled into the dead corner. He just did the catch-and-shoot such that the Rockets would not have a 24 second violation.

You don't really want that happens too frequently cos it means those shoot-first-pass-second guards of Rockets could not find Yao and pass him the entry passes.

Haha, I agree that Yao has a soft shooting-touch from midrange but that was his 2nd made 3-pointer during his nba-career out of 10 tries which makes him a 20% from the 3-point line and that's probably the best he can do from 3-pointland... And if he's gonna try to be Manute we won't have any rebounders and the rockets are only a decent rebounding-team at it's best with Yao trying to grab the rocks, I wouldn't like him bombing 3-pointers...

Who needs Joe Johnson when we can run Yao at the 2 guard?

If yao did the way you proposed, then some of dumb ppl would jump out whining yao is not aggressive, yao is soft, yao is a waste of stiff blah blah blah.

He should shoot them more, which is clearly something RA is going to look at but don't count on him shooting them unless in a situation like that.

Yao (On if he will be taking more three-pointers this season)

“Not really. I think I am good in the post. That was one try, and that was it. But when the ball was released, I felt good.”

Scola. Landry. Hayes. Yao isn't our best offensive rebounder anyway.

But I agree with the general point. You don't want Yao to park at the 3pt line. In situations like last night's shot, it was a good play. He was left wide open and he should shoot it even the shot clock wasn't expiring.
