Man some of you people defend JVG no matter what. Big men are the most suseptible to foot injuries.

Knowing Yao had a sprained ankle the night before should've erred on the side of caution instead of always trying to put large square pegs in small round holes....lol

Seriously, what was the use of playing Yao tonight? To prove what, and to whom?

Is he thinking right now or is he now enjoying grinding out every ounce of anything useful he has

I thought this was another joke. If it's nothing permanent, then at least Yao gets to rest this summer. It'll be hell for him to watch his teammates play, but he's the type to use that aggression when he returns.

We've seen a lot of growth from the big fella. It sucks to end it like this, but he has promise.

P.S. I think VG would've lost the team if he sat a Yao without complications.

Do they allow steel-toe construction boots in the NBA?

Seriously...certainly with all of today's technology they can devise some sort of shock absorbtion system to lessen the damage from other players' feet.

yao has broken his foot that much is obvious

however, has it been confirmed by anyone other than bill worrell and matt bullard that it's a jones' fracture or is this all speculation?

Hey, what happened to that thing Yao had on his shoes to protect from people like Danny Fortson stepping on his toes?

Atleast this happened now, not when we all still had some hope for the playoffs.

It happening now is fine. The season is over, he has time to heal. Better now than the begining of next season.

Who cares about the sharks. You have a number of months to get well Yao.

Look forward to seeing you and TMAC on the court next season.

You're the only one who cares about the "WC" (Water Closet?) If Yao is hurt, it'd be stupid for him to rush back so that he can take part in some stupid tournament to satisfy the wetdreams of a bunch of loser YOFs.

For people that didn't get to see the game, Yao's foot broke when he came down on Deron William's foot. Same thing happened to Shaq last season but Shaq was fortunate enough to only have sprained his ankle. AK stepping on Yao's foot only made it more painful. And that's when he left.

World Championship is not some stupid tournament. Most of the international players will go home and play for their countries. If you think Yao doesn't care about that, you are fool. whether he should play in that tournament is one thing, but he will do everything to make it happen. and this is really out of our control.

C'mon people, chill out, its not that bad! The kid played another minute or two after the injury had occured...how bad can it be? Its not like he was on the ground crying in pain and that it could be much worse. A hairline fracture at worst and a deep sprain at a bare minimum.

According to yao, it's Okur's kick to the side of his foot caused break. (see Chron).

According to team of Yao, the initial estimation is that Yao will be out for 2-3 months.

Update: Rockets Center Yao Ming Breaks Foot

"Maybe it's the best thing for me and when I come back I'll be stronger," Yao said while wearing a protective boot in the locker room after the Rockets' 85-83 loss to the Jazz.

"Tomorrow, I'll go see a doctor in Houston, so I can't say anything before that."

The Chinese star said Utah's Mehmet Okur kicked him on the side of the foot, but he tried to play through the pain for a few minutes before it became too much.

Utah's Andrei Kirilenko appeared to step on the same foot while the two were under the basket. Yao got the offensive rebound and converted the three-point play after Kirilenko was called for a foul.

After making the layup, Yao bent down and rubbed his left foot before going to the line with 4:35 left in the first quarter. He came out with 3:51 left in the period and went to the locker room.

Yao said he hadn't seen the video yet, but thought it was Okur who kicked him on the side of the foot.

"It was a fight for position," Yao said. "It happens on the court."

Looks like Yao has problems with is left foot before. Below is a quote from Yao: Life In Two Worlds. For those that own the book its on page 49 bottom paragraph:

"The winter after I went to Paris, I broke my left foot. This was near the end of my last season with the Sharks' junior team. I jumped for a rebound and landed on somebody else's foot. I sprained my ankle on that play, too. I think if I hadn't gotten hurt, the would've brought me up to the Sharks before the season ended.

page 50 top: " The next year, I broke the same foot again, this time in a pre-season game in December. Someone stepped on my left foot just before I tried to move. I didn't play until the end of the season, the last twelve games. When Houston first saw X-rays of my feet, they saw that my left foot had been broken a couple of times and were worried I might have serious problems and not be able to play. Then had their team doctor fly to Beijing and check me out.
The doctor said I was OK, I can tell you I haven't jumped the same since the second break."

Just wanted to pass that along to everyone, did not see it posted on here before. My best wishes go out to Yao. Hopefully he will reach a full recovery and be back at 100% for next season.

WE NEED YOU BIG GUY GET WELL SOON!!!! :)

That's why I never undertand those who take the foot injury lightly - the "no big deal, he'll be back in time for next season" bunch.

Insane. Imagine how crazy it would be if Yao could jump high. THink about it. If Yao never broke his foot twice with his chinese team, he'd have some semblance of a vertical. Hell, just another 3-4 inches on his vert would absolutely be unfair to the rest of the NBA. Oh man, one can dream.
