The simliarity of these two guys' stats are so similar, its eerie. They even had very similar stats last year when they were battling for the ROY award. I wonder who's the better player right now in their development. I'd say Yao (cuz he's a rocket Amare = PPG 16.4, FG 44.6%, FT 71.6%, RPG 9.8, APG .5, BPG 1.8 Yao = PPG 16.4, FG 48.2%, FT 72.7%, RPG 9.9, APG 2.2, BPG 2.36
wow, i didnt realize. however, blocks assists and fg% clearly tip the scales to yao. Amare has gotten a lot of heat for not passsing.
You could use the same evidence to support the opposite case. Not to mention Amare is much younger. But I'm glad we've got Yao. Wouldn't want anyone else.
Come on...Yao should have won ROY last year...Period!!! Amare will be ok in the leauge, but Yao will be a HOF... Go Rox and Yao!!!
this is a bit of a pointless debate. you could also argue all day long about what athletic means, but it is hard to say that anyone is a better athlete than kevin garnett.
I'm not debating anyone, but when you combine, height, strength, quickness, and leaping ability, I just don't see who compares.
Should also add that Amare's getting his stats above on 36 mpg, whereas Yao's still at 34.5 mpg. Now, that's bad for Yao because it means he's not on the court enough... but as the last week shows, Yao's quickly getting to the point where his stamina is holding up through a 40-45 minute performance.
Yao and Amare don't compare. That's like comparing Iverson to McGrady. Staistics are one thing. Overall team contribution is another. Ask T-Mac and his cousin...
you weren't debating before, my bad, but now you are. amare is stronger for sure but garnett has him beat just about everywhere else. the biggest advantage is his ability to play offense and defense away from the basket as well as inside.
amare is like 21 years his age at NBA.com http://www.nba.com/playerfile/amare_stoudemire/index.html?nav=page
The most important tell stat is : their influence to their teams and their opponents. There is no comparison here. Double team tells you everything.
Actually I saw the stats at NBA.com too. One thing though, Amare only played for 10 games so far, whille Yao played 11.
When Amare gets double/triple teamed, and he starts playing defence AND HIS TEAM STARTS WINNING, I'll gladly say he and Yao are equal.
