OK, I went to Fry's last night intending to get one. Issues: #1-they won't install them in Land Rover's. Service guy said it was "too expensive and complicated." #2-XM was $240 for everything, except installation. Sirius was $150 for everything, except installation. XM was $10/month Sirius was $13/month. Sirius was Blaupunct XM was Delphi Blaupunct > Delphi Where is a good place to get this. Where can I get it installed? Are there better deals than the ones I stated? After my radio preset thread, I'm sick of not having 610 anymore.
Well I have a friend that has a Land Rover and they use a portable Delphi Unit with a remote control. Very nice system. I saw it in Frys sale paper last week. Im thinking about buying one for myself. Radio has gone to new lows.
I cant speak for where to get it installed since I did that myself.. but you gotta go with Sirius. many reasons....Top2 for me 1) Not owned in anyway by Clearchannel 2) NBA Stations(listen to games from all aroudn the country) and a distant reason behind the channels that I love on it is the fact that you could listen to Stern uncensored in a year or so(if you are into that) Im not honestly that big of a fan of his, but with the increased censorship the FCC has been tryin to do, he at least has been speaking out against them, and is FWIU possibly not making as much money by leaving syndicated national radio for a smaller satellite radio. If true...thats putting your money where your mouth is, and I respect that.
Spend the extra money and get an XM or Sirius ready deck. The quality is MUCH better. I have XM and I love it.
That's odd. The Fry guy said they couldn't do it, period. MB: So they have portable decks. Wouldn't that still have to be installed in your car? R2K: Looking at the two systems yesterday, I had decided on Sirius. But then they said they couldn't install it. That's why I'm asking you guys. Also!!! If I install one of these, will the antennae let me get back my A.M. stations?!? Does anyone know?
oh..my bad. since you had listed both options...I thought you were still deciding between them. advice....dont take the word of a Fry's installer...judging by the knowledge level of their indoor techs...you would be better served going to a real car audio place and asking them. Fry's people are little better than half-trained monkeys.
Its not a portable deck. It would be the radio in your car but with the capability of XM or Sirius. I had the Delphi which is great for in the house but it is kind of ugly in the car and the quality isnt nearly as good. Basically you would buy a new radio for your car plus some other crap that you wouldnt see. They install it and its very clean looking and the sound quality is much better.
I just installed a Sirius Starbase. Its awesome. Its not a portable unit like the Blankpudt and Delphi but you get a lot more options as far as a clean install. It has all the same fetures as the Blaunt and Delphi just a lot smaller. If you wanna take a look at my install go to http://www.siriusbackstage.com/forum/album.php Its the first couple of pics. They only have it at Tweeter in houston, but you can get it at circuitcity.com at http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/SIRI...sem/rpsm/oid/117596/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do I had a PNP unit but it got stolen a couple of weeks ago. I got this as a replacement and couldn't be happier with it.
I just put in a Kenwood deck that has Sirius controls, does this mean all I need is an Sirius antenna (like this one?) and I'm good to go?
So as not to get you confused, it may not solve your am problem. The sat antenna will only get the sat feed. You rradio will continue to use the existing antenna to get fm and am. If the problem you are having is in your current antenna then it probably won't solve the problem. But to make you feel better, I was a 100% am listener before I got Sirius. Now I am a 98% Sirius listener. The only thing I listen to other than that is a local show about computers. Everything I listened to on am I can either find on Sirrius or I can find something comparable.
What deck did you put in? Most Sirius ready decks require an antenna and a Sirius specific receiver. Most likely you'll need something like this (it comes with the antenna) to make it work.
If you aren't really pressed to add Sirius right away, give it time. They run promotions pretty often where you can really get the receiver and antenna cheap. I paid $39 for my antenna and got the kenwood receiver for free at Best Buy.
