I have both an XBOX and a PS2 but it seems more games come for the PS2 and are left off the XBOX console. Such as the March Madness and GTA series (only available on PS2). I just got an XBOX 2 weeks ago but I think my PS2 I bought 2 years ago is a much better investment. Do you guys ever think XBOX will fold or be able to get these quality games which have been left out so far?

I have both. I loved Halo and thought Oddworld 3 was okay, but otherwise I find myself playing more games on the PS2 (Grand Turismo, FFX, Resident Evil, GTA3, Socom).

    Sony's not going anywhere.

As far as the XBox, I figure with Bill Gates' ego, he'll keep it around. Wall Street analysts disagree but Gates likes to throw quotes back in the face of WS.

I don't think one could go wrong with either one. Both have great games, and I think they will get better. I stick with the PS2 since I'm a RPG fan and the PS2 just DOMINATES in that genre, but if I wasn't a RPG fan, I probably would have an XBOX in my room right now. Those are just my opinions.

I think he was talking about games exclusive to PS2.

Not games on both systems like Tiger Woods.

X-BOX is a more powerful system. Once designers start to take full advantage of it, it will be competing with PS3. It isn't like Microsoft is a struggling startup company. I don't see the X-BOX going the way of NEC's TurboGrafx16.

Considering the kinds of games I like, I definitely prefer the PS2. The only interesting games on Xbox are Halo, Morrowind, Splinter Cell, Halo 2 (scheduled for release late 2003) and Fable (scheduled for release late '03 or early '04). Not quite enough for me to plunk down $199 for the system. Maybe I'll get it once it drops to $99. Anyway, Morrowind is also a PC game while Halo and Splinter Cell are both coming to PC.

BTW, I prefer the GameCube over both the PS2 and Xbox.

As for Xbox competing with PS3, no way in hell. Xbox is powerful but it will be nowhere near as powerful as the PS3. I'll also mention that an Xbox 2 is currently in the R&D stage. More importantly, Sony has way more mindshare than Microsoft...the name "PlayStation" has become pretty much a household name. It will take much more than just "power" for Microsoft to become a serious threat to Sony.

I have both and i think xbox will pass ps2 and ps3 in sales because once they get more games the online is going to be really good and the non-memory card is going to attract people, sony always wants money for memory cards.

i have both too. the only on ps2 games are much more fun on ps2 than on xbox(exception of a halo). Then the rest of the games are o nboth. Plus no dvd attachment for ps2, better controller...
i have xbox live, thats very very good, but on those socom commercials, they have ps2 online? Im not sure if thats what it is or if it even exists. If it does, ps2 should be your 100 percent choice.

PS2 does have a broadband and network adapter, it's just not easy to find them right now. SOCOM and this years football and basketball games can all be played online, plus a few others.

XBox can't get support from Japanese 3rd party developers and that is hurting them. The system may be more powerful but there are not enough good games for it, and I'm not willing to pay $250 to play Halo. If the XBox survives it will be simply because Microsoft was willing to loose a lot of money on it until it got support or they were able to buy enough development companies like Bungie and Rare.

I would take a GameCube or PS2 over an XBox any day of the week, there is just no comparison.

I researched both for quite awhile before I bought my PS-2. The selling point for me was that while the xbox has the capabilities of being the better system, even the gamemakers pointed out that the PS-2 won't be used to full capacity by the issuance of the next playstation. This means there is no way the xbox could be fully utilized. Therefore you go with the system with the best games which is the playstation.

I think this is one thing that hurts the XBOX. I was watching an episode of Extended Play, which is a video game show, and it was reviewing XBOX's greatest games of the year. Most of them were found on other systems or on the PC. For example, Unreal Championship. The show even went on to say that if you have the PC version, don't bother with the XBOX version.

This kind of helped me in my decision. Like I said, I love RPGs but I wasn't going to miss out on THPS games, most sports games, wrestling games, and some FPS. That helped me out big time. Morrowind was a big example since I really like the Elder Scrolls and I managed to get it on the PC. (though I had to get a brand new PC just to run it. :D )

by the by, both the ps-3 and xbox-2 are scheduled for release in 2005, so if you are waiting for your xbox to surpass any playstation (2/3) you are holding your breath in vain.

also, the new xbox will have tvo and the new playstation will have a vcr or something along that format

I, for one, think XBox is going to fold. If you look at it, this is the same thing that happened with the last 3 big systems: a Sony system (playstation/ps2) a Nintendo system (N64/Gamecube) and some all-powerful system by another company (Dreamcast/XBox). And what happened with those? PSone is still making games, N64 has since died off, and Dreamcast, although the most powerful, was the first one to be discontinued. But it's just this simple: PS2 has more (and better) games, but if you're looking for graphics XBox is the best one for you.

I was just getting ready to start one of these threads.

I have been one of the rare GC fans, and I've loved mine since I've gotten it...till now. First, I got NBA 2k3 for Christmas, and the damn game freezes every other game I play. Second, I played the same game on XBox and it is much more polished everywhere over the GC. The GC version is choppy at times, while the XBox runs very smoothly.

And the major reason why I am selling my GC will be that Sega Sports is no longer making games for it, starting next year. 2k3 is the only game I usually buy from Sega, but that takes away the competition for EA Sports on the GC, meaning they could pay less attention to it. Sports games are about 80% of what I buy.

Right now I'm leaning toward PS2, so I know I won't have to worry about getting the games I want.

I have played both systems ALOT in recent days.

I own a PS2, my cousin owns an X-Box. My Auntie keeps asking me which on I think is better.

The X-Box has very good graphics....but not enough to make a PS2 owner feel like they are missing out.

I think Playstation is just so dominant that now even Nintendo will find it hard, let alone X-Box.

Here in Australia, X-Box struggles in a was the Dreamcast did. I brought a PS2 the day it come out and own some of the best games ever made.

I could go out now and buy an X-Box for cheap....but its not worth it.

PS2 has the games, its runs all of them very well. What more do you want.

I cant even imagine what the PS3 will be like. The graphics will be mind blowing. I would like to see them build in a hard drive so you can save games onto the system. I'd also like to be able to EASILY hook it up to my computer so I can download game saves and other files off the net.

Its going to be incredible. As a child of the videogame era that started on the most basic games to now have a PC, PS2 and these great games.....imagine what it will be like into 20 more years!

I'm not 100%, but I think a hard drive is/will be out for the PS2. I'm not sure, but I just remember hearing about it before. However, it has been awhile. It may be out in Japan and not here. (I hate that. Someday, I will learn Japanese!) Maybe someone else knows more. So the PS3 ought to be able to have a hard drive, at least.

As for the other part, they may just stick with it being able to go online by itself, though I don't know if everyone can get that. That way, you can get it straight off the console. However, it would probably be easier on some of us if you could do what you suggested.

BTW, I agree with your opinions. It is amazing how video games have "evolved."
