Curious if anyone else took the plunge? I got one....seem to be selling pretty well early on but the "bundle" scenario may be keeping some away.

My first dash into console gaming since the original Atari. If I get bored, then I'll watch a DVD.

My first plunge into console gaming since my Atari 2600 was the PS2. I will be getting the XBox ASAP.

...where's the option in your poll for that response?!

Retailer employee says, "Mr. Dunk, you have to get in line with the rest of the gamers. Just cause your a QA person doesn't give you special privileges at our store. Sorry, we just sold our last one. We will have more ASAP." :D

I would say pre-order or line up at retailer covers ASAP....unless your privileged.

Nonsense! I refuse to line-up anywhere!!! I want an option for "I'll wait until there're no lines, walk in, and buy one... ASAP". :D

Here in South Florida the Electronic Botique stores started taking there pre-orders for the X-Box this past Saturday. I was at the local E-Botique Saturday morning at 11am. They guy that took my preorder told me that the store only had 50 units for preorder. I asked him how many units he had remaining and he said 10. This was 2 hours after the store opened. In any case I can't wait till November 8 when I can go get my X-Box.

Just curious which games are you guys getting. I am getting Halo, Dead or Alive 3, and NFL Fever or Madden.

Also which is better NFL Fever 2002 or Madden 2002? Any word yet. The guy at the store said that NFL Fever was actually better than Madden. So that confused me. Oh well.

On top of that the DVD player on the X-Box is progressive scan. This is just too good to be true!!! :D

The game I am really looking forward to is Metal Gear 2 - Sons of Liberty.

    bump....some of you aren't voting:( .

Would it help if I gave out free beer:cool: ? I'll ship it to you packed in dry ice.

    Um hum...right....ah....

I wonder how good Halo really is? Sounds fanbloodytastic. I read some how the DD 5.1 sound is being overlooked as everyone is jawdropping over the stunning graphics. The bundle I got was Halo, Madden NFL 2002(although I hear NFL Fever 2002 has better gameplay...what do I know..the last football game I played was a table top version with the bowling ball thingie...that was awesome:)), OddWorld((Munch's Oddysee)...looks excellent...not of this world weirdness), Air Force Delta Storm(graphics sold me here...supposed arcade style of jet piloting/fighting), DeAd or aLiVe 3(have no idea...karate fighting I guess...supposed to be really excellent...Japanese origin), and StarWars Starfighter SE(hey...its star wars....seems mediocre at best, though....).

    Good times.

I guess I have to read up more on the 'Box. As of right now I'm leaning towards the Gamecube, because it's got more games I'm interested in and it's reportedly going to be cheaper.

This will be a big decision. I haven't bought a game system since I got my first computer 7 years ago.

In any case, my friends and I had too much damn fun with Super Smash Bros.

So Melee alone is already drawing me in...

Any tips on how to get my hands on an Xbox the first day?

I didn't preorder. A Nintendo fan says demo units are crashing everywhere.

How did you PS2 people do it?

They must have some control over the mob that will form around midnight....right?

    People just start lining up.

    The X-box is coming...the X-box is coming!

I had to cancel Thanksgiving.....bad timing. Best I can do is Hungry Man Turkey Dinner. I really don't know what to expect....I hope to be blown away by the graphics and gameplay. I don't know whether to be excited or sick to my stomach from the dent in my wallet.

Oh...and I most definitely will get Transworld Surf...being the ex crappy surfer and all. I hope shark attacks are a part of it(save me from the wipeout). No terrorists, please, sabotaging my leash at the North Shore on the big wave. No packed powders in place of my sex wax ;).

X-Box demo units are set up at stores across the country. Some have reported crashes. The machine will work fine then shut down or something like that.

Microsoft reports that the demo discs were bad. New demo discs have solved the problem. They insist nothing is wrong with the actually hardware.

My friend who is a Nintendo fan told me about it. I kind of didn't believe him because he hates Microsoft until I read about it myself.

    ah, thanks for the explanation.

yeah, there usually is something wrong with the first batch :)

I got my games stocked right now. Time to sit back and watch the systems duke it out. I'll buy from whoever has the better game library most likely(and when they lower prices)

IMO, PS2 is the frontrunner, Xbox the darkhorse, and gamecube the underdog, as of right now. But you never know what a year or 2 can bring.

I for one at first was all high on the PS2. But for the past few months, I have been VERY impressesd with the lineup of the Xbox. They have all the 3rd party developers Dreamcast (RIP)struggled to get. Plus with some games I have seen so far, they are just mindblowing. With the 5.1 SS feature is impressive. If I had $300 to blow, I would choose the Xbox and just buy the PS2 when it gets cheaper. As for the GameCube? Nintendo seems to be just a company aiming towards kids. Sure they may have the exclusive rights to release Resident Evil games for the next few years, but thats about it. GameCube is cheaper by a bill but I think the Xbox will over take Sony in the not so distant future.

I have a PS2 right now. Definitely going to lineup for the Gamecube. Preordering is for suckers with all the extra useless stuff you have to buy. I love the Zelda and Mario games and that is why I am getting the new Nintendo system. Plus now that it is on a mini-disc more third parties are geared up for games. I also might end up getting the Xbox if it turns out to be really good.

The only Xbox game that has caught my interest is Halo. I'm sure that the game will be appearing in many Xbox kiosks around the country any day now (if not already)....after all, it's the title that Microsoft seems to be hyping the most.

However, it's going to take more than one "interesting" game in order to get me to purchase a console, especially when said console has a launch price of $300. So I'll pass on the Xbox at launch. If it's future lineup (i.e. 2002, 2003, etc.) has enough interesting games, then I'll consider getting an Xbox once it has a decent drop in price.

GameCube on the other hand I am definitely planning to get at launch. I decided not to preorder it, so my presence will be felt early Sunday Nov. 18 morning at my local Wal-Mart...possibly earlier (see the * part below for an explanation).

Good luck to all you guys who didn't preorder an Xbox and still plan to pick one up on launch.....because I'm expecting major shortages (possibly worse than PS2). This is because there will only be about 300,000 available units total on launch day (if that many)...and keep in mind that some of those units will go to the people who did preorder. This number is down from Microsoft's initial launch projections of 600,000 to 800,000....apparently they've had some manufacturing problems at their Xbox manufacturing plant in Mexico (I think there are other reasons too).

And for those people who still don't have a PS2 but still want one: Don't be surprised if Sony suddenly drops the price of the PS2 down to $199 (or at least $249) very soon....like within the next several weeks. Sure, the system has been selling great at its $299 price tag, but such a price drop would be a smart move considering the approaching competition from Nintendo and Microsoft. Also, Sony has already dropped the PS2's price in countries such as Europe and Japan. I think it's only a matter of time before it happens here in the States.

    * The reason that I said "earlier" is because the official November 18 launch date for the GameCube is a "soft" release date. Nov. 18th is a Sunday, and Nintendo does not ship on Sundays. So they'll be shipping the units to stores 3-5 days earlier, and it's likely that many stores will receive their allocated shipments as early as the 15th...and there is a good chance that some of these stores will break the street date and sell them right then instead of waiting until the 18th. So it's possible that you might get your GC early (whether you preordered or not). This includes online stores, too. Furthermore, just about all of the launch games have already "gone gold" (i.e. they're done and ready to go) and it has been confirmed that some GameCube games will definitely arrive in stores as early as Nov. 6th - Nov. 14th....some of these games include Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II and Super Monkey Ball. So you might be able to pick up the games that you want before you get the system itself. Anyway, I'd check with whatever store where you're planning to get your GameCube a few days before the actual launch date...they might already have the units on the shelves.
