Ive recently been looking into modding my 360 and going with a extreme 1.6 but not sure if its such a god idea. I'm not sure which drive is the best and would like to ask if anybody uses modded xbox 360's and if it's worth it? And yes I'm fully aware of the lifetime console bans.
All drives can be modded at the moment. The best and easiest though is the Hitachi, the hardest are the Lite-On. As long as you stealth patch your games and verify them with agbx360, and don't play games before the release date, you should be okay. It was the best investment I've made for my xbox.
Ya its a good investment. Like the poster above said, make sure they are stealth protected and do not update your xbox live until you know its safe because thats how they ban people with modded 360s. (but you can do updates for games b/c those are always safe)
Easiest and hardest to install? I'm getting a guy to install it but what's the difference between them?
there isn't an install, just a flash to your dvd drive, the lite-on drives are harder because you have to jump through more hoops. Be warned though that it seems like the new games being released are going to be Wave 4, so that just means if you want to play newer games, Assasins Creed, Modern Warfare 2, you'll have to reflash you're drive when the new iextreme version when it comes out. I'm not 100% sure on that, but it looks like Wave 4 is coming.
So maybe wait on getting it modded till they release the new flash? That's another thing I was wondering cause I've been hearing about the new releases being Wave 4. And even with the holidays coming closer and big titles being released..... damn
YouTube and Google are your friends. YouTube especially, I'd say don't do a mod in which you have to actually open the case...
Yeah, this peaked my interest...whats the deal with modding 360's...info please, as I feel like I want to do this. EDIT: I'll also pay money for someone to do this for me, haha.
The sole and only reason to mod your xbox 360 is to be able to play backups off of a dual-layer dvd, where you get your backups online is up to you, usenet, bit torrent, or what have you. The best and so far most successful way to mod the 360 is a firmware hack they do to your dvd drive, basically they unlock it so it can read the burned dvd's. There is the possibility of getting banned from xbox live if you don't follow some rules, mainly playing before the release date, and not having your game stealth patched with a program called abgx360. This thread helped me out a ton, http://houston-imports.com/forums/showthread.php?t=490415 Remember, this basically voids your warranty and is pretty much a frowned upon thing.
Yeah the warranty thing is the only thing that sucks but mine is already up and it has already had the RROD twice so if I get it modded and it gets banned I'm just buying a new xbox.
Quick questions to the techies, Since you can install games to your hard drive, why not just a buy a few hard drive and download all the games you want? I am going to try this today to see how many games I can put on 120 GB drive.
You can download it to your HDD to reduce load times however, when you play the games the game disk still has to be in the Xbox 360... I mean... Microsoft isn't that stupid.
Yeah they fixed that problem from the original xbox. I had a xbox modded with 6 emulators and downloaded games. But I had a switch put in so that when I wanted to play on xbox live I just flipped the switch. Good days of pirated video games.
