I think it's because they had a handshake agreement to allow WWF be wrestling in America while the World Wildlife Foundation was WWF for the rest of the world. But recently, I guess because of wrestling's growing popularity around the world, the WWF took back it's naming rights because they didn't want any confusion. Since wrestling's new nickname was younger than the World Wildlife Fund, the court trial wasn't a real fight. I wonder why they didn't change it back to WWWF.
Wrestling was better back when they actually tried to hide the fact that it was staged. Since they've come full circle, it has gotten really watered down... Plus, since there is no real competition for the WWE, Vince McMahon can put out as much crappy product as he wants and fans have no choice but to come back... A-Train - reformed wrassllin' addict...
For those of you that hate the WWE, there's always the NWA on PPV. It's going back to great wrestling with no overpriced special effects.
Ever since the Von Erichs started dropping like flies, I quit watching wrestling. I just can't get into it.
From what I have read on several fan sites. Vince introduced Eric Bischoff(sp?) as the new Gm of Raw. As to answer the question above. The World Wildlife Fund sued WWFE saying they hold the rights to using the initials WWF worldwide. The courts agreed so now we have WWE. CK
Yea it is just a story line for now. Bishoff is just an onair talent, and will do nothing for the booking team. I thought it was a pretty gutsy move in part of McMahon. Who in the hell thought those 2 would be on the same stage, same show? Bishoff almost put the WWF out of business but it just brought the best out of McMahon. He pretty much summed it up by introduing Bishoff as "From one SOB to another SOB".
So do movies, and they use the same plots over and and over and over. As for the WWE/WWF, the World Wildlife Foundation has the rights to the name. Vince McMahon Jr started using the name "WWF" about 20 years ago, but the World Wildlife Foundation had been using the "WWF" signatures for about 20 years prior to that. So technically the WWE was using the WWF name illegal for the better part of a decade, and then refused obey the agreement made by the Foundation and WWE and basically McMahon got his @ss handed to him in court. Thus the WWE is born.
I just never could get into wrestling. For me, it was uncomfortable watching big sweaty dudes in their underwear jumping all over each other...
Because...the greatest talent in WWE history got fired. SCOTT "HEY YO!" HALL! EL CHICO!!!!! man...that guy made me cry of laughter whenever he got on the mic.... Best finisher ever = Razor's Edge. No questions.
