I'd still hit it... March 4, 2004, 3:42PM Wright gets 25 years in prison for murder By ANDREW TILGHMAN Copyright 2004 Houston Chronicle RESOURCES Susan Wright was convicted of murder for stabbing her husband 193 times and burying him in their back yard. Susan Wright was sentenced to 25 years in prison today for the murder of the husband she stabbed 193 times and buried in her back yard. Attorneys for Wright urged jurors this morning not to send the young mother to prison despite convicting her of murdering her husband by tying him up and mutilating his body. "We respectfully ask that she get probation in this case. That is the right, fair and just thing to do," attorney Neal Davis told jurors before they began deliberating at 10 a.m. Wright faces up to life in prison for killing her husband and burying his body in a hole he had dug for a fountain in the couple's patio. She then tried to conceal evidence of the slaying with paint and bleach. State District Judge Jim Wallace instructed jurors this morning that Wright, 27, has no criminal record and therefore is eligible for probation for murdering her husband, 34-year-old Jeffrey Wright. But prosecutors said the former topless dancer, who they say killed her husband for his $200,000 life insurance policy, should get no less than 45 years. They dismissed the prospect of probation as absurd. "You'd be patting her on the back and saying 'Susan, go on out there and try to cut down on that killing,'" said Assistant District Attorney Murray Newman. The jury took just 5 1/2 hours to convict Wright on Wednesday, accepting prosecutors' contention that she had seduced Jeffrey Wright and tied him hand-and-foot to the bedposts, rendering him unable to fend off a flurry of stabs to his head, neck, chest and genitals. Wright testified that her husband had raped her and beaten her, then threatened her with a knife. She said she somehow wrestled the knife from him and stabbed him in a fit of terror. In closing arguments of the trial's penalty phase, defense attorneys pointed to testimony suggesting that Jeffrey Wright was a cocaine-snorting husband who frequently beat his wife in the couple's northwest Harris County home. "It isn't throwing mud on Jeff. This is showing you his predisposition toward violence, to show you what Susan was dealing with," Davis said. "If ever there were a crime of passion, if ever there was a crime of terror, if ever there was a crime of desperation, this is it." Assistant District Attorney Kelly Siegler motioned toward the video cameras in the courtroom and reminded jurors that their verdict may reflect upon their home state. "You want all those people out there to think that a Texas jury gave a Texas woman probation for stabbing her husband 193 times?" Siegler asked. She categorically dismissed the evidence that suggested Susan Wright was abused in any way. "It was all a big old lie so that y'all would feel sorry for her and think that Jeff was a big old brute," Siegler said. "Their defense strategy has always been that Jeff deserved killing, so his killer doesn't deserve punishment. "The fact she has pretended to be a battered wife is disgusting," Siegler added. "This woman has hurt the cause of truly abused women because her lies and manipulations have caused a lot of people to be more skeptical next time some woman who was really abused walks into a police station."
man, psycho b*tches are running rampant in houston. remind me to never piss one off. murdering children and husbands. not that it's really that uncommon, but houston is getting it's share of these high profile cases. what's next? the family dog?
Actually that happened up here in Jonesboro, AR except it was two guys. They took a dog, killed it, and then BBQ'd it and ate it.
so Yates, Harris and Wright = no death penalty i guess you have to be a male and/or a minority to get it in TX
193 times!?!?!?! Wouldn't you think that even the most pathalogically inspired kill thrill would grow a little stale after the first 50 or so?
I'm not too familiar with the case, but how did they prove that she did tie him up or that he did not attack her? How did they find the body? 193 times? Psycho...I still think the woman running over her husband was pretty crazy. Wasn't it in front of her daughter?
Justice was not served. She can serve her time in my bedroom. Man, if all that stuff about her husband was true, he is a dumbass. Trophy wife like that, why would you be beating her. Even if she wasn't all that hotness, you still can't do that. I am going to send her a cake with a file in it. I hope she can bust out.
Classic. I've found my soulmate: 24, HS dropout, 3 kids, divorced, bisexual, in prison until 2028...where do I sign up?
Try this thread, with a great post by Pole, among other gems. But do not take any mathematics advice from Pole, especially if you're planning your future sex life and counting on a woman's sexual prime.
I should have added.....she'll be eligible for parole in 12.5 years. That might make my math a bit more easy on the stomach (she is 27, isn't she?).
Once she gets out of prison, she could work in a "massage" parlor and use the arm for good instead of evil.
You are such a fking idiot. A man is dead; you have no idea what type of person he was or how he treated her. They should let her her shack up with you and then she can stab you a few hundred times. How would you like that.
