Did you see the Griffin take the ball away from Garnett and put it in! We're going to see a lot of that in years to come. Superb!
I know Griffin is a damn rookie but for once can the rockets let griffin take the ball inside. JUST ONE GAME.. LET EDDIE GRIFFIN BE THE LEADER! WE SUCK ANYWAYS
I know that Pau has been a pro for some time, but I just cannot see how EG is not allowed to dominate inside like Pau does. Afterall, Pau is a skinny kid but still gets it done with less jumping ability than EG.
pau gets it inside because he has better footwork and more moves down low. right now griffin only has that litle turn-around which other teams have been able to read. when he develops moves then rudy will post him up.
BigM nailed it exactly. With only one year of college ball, Griffin never had the chance to work on footwork in the post and his post game, as a result, is not good. All he has is that turnaround which is average at best. Gasol spent a number of years in the pros in Europe. His skills on the block are much more refined. Griffin will need to add a few pounds and really work on his low post game. However, my bet is that the first thing he works on is ball handling. With his size and skill, post moves are something that will likely come naturally. If he can learn to handle the ball on the floor, he will be devastating against bigger, slower players. Once he is better with that, he can add the low post moves the Rockets big men coaches are famous for teaching - drop step, jump hook, etc.
Anyone else see Griff bust a turnaround with Garnett right on him. Garnett came in averaging something like 30-10-6 against the Rockets this season-The Rockets, especially Griffin, really frustrated him. The most telling stat: Their big 3, Billups, Wally, KG, shot 20-50 combined. KT is thriving from the switch to SF with high percentage shots, but it seems to be affecting Griff. Griffin seems to be starting poorly, and then he starts to hesitate on his shot. His turnaround sure looked natural, and hopefully next year, he'll be spending more time on the baseline than on the perimeter. I'd like to see us try to use Griffin as a passer from the top of the key like they use Garnett. Griffin's hitting his wall as the league has learned how to frustrate his shot. He's going through it now, which is good, so he'll be able to work on more facets of his game and be able to score in other ways. Steve's PG play was awesome for most of the game. He was zipping passes inside for oppurtunity baskets, and making plays from the middle of the floor. I thought this was one of Steve's best games as a playmaker of the year, even if he stunk from the charity stripe. The Rockets won pretty handily even with the poor FT shooting.
I hope so too, but the kid is absolutely in love with shooting the three. He exclusively shot threes for 30 minutes during warmups before the Wizards game a couple nights ago. And even more disturbing is sometimes he was standing a couple of feet behind the line. Sure, he swished most of them, but that's beside the point. Someone's going to have to eventually break up his love affair with the three. Its definitly should be a big part of his offensive game, but not 90% of it.
Griffin needs to bulk up I noticed that he does not have the thrust of power to command the ball in the paint and dunk it. Actually I think rudy wants him to shoot three's this year and then work on his other skills in the offseason. Griffin with bulk will be dominant and Kg was his b**** tonight
What is wrong with Griffin liking the 3? He can stroke it. Let him. Don't force him to take shots he doesn't like/isn't good at. Why try to change the player, when it's so much easier to change the system to suit the player?
There's nothing wrong with it, but if he can improve other parts of his game why not try. Like I said, I think the three should be a big part of his offensive game, but not all of it. Its nice to have a big man who can score down low. And when he's not hitting the three very well, like he's been doing this entire month, he can find other ways to score.
Griff's post up game is terrible. He's got that turnaround with a slow release that was blocked at least twice against the Wolves. Yea, he hit one in KG's face. If he can get it off, he'll probably hit it but all too often he gets it stuffed. I'm already looking forward to next season. So much promise so far away.
I studied Griff's shot last night to see why he gets blocked so easy. The reason is because he doesn't really get off his feet to shoot then he releases in front of his face rather than over his head. I hope he raises his shot. I hate seeing him blocked. He was frustrating KG on defense though.
If there was just a way for Eddie to develop Kenny's footwork. KT is becoming my favorite player on the team. In a way he kind of represents this team for me. He's undersized and unrespected but he's learning to use what he's got, lightning quickness, and he's becoming someone who, on any given night, is forcing the other team to adjust their defense to try and slow him down. Dear Rocketgods, Please don't trade Kenny in the offseason, and while you're at it Rocketgods, please give Eddie Griffen footwork like Kenny's. Yours truly, madly, deeply backwardhead
I didn't see the game but EG had a horrid shooting night. What kinda shots was he taking??? I assume he was taking alot of jumping shots
When he missed he usually hesitated on an open shot or got blocked. He hit a nice turnaround on KG in the middle of a scoring drought so he did come up big when we needed it most.
