http://www.southjerseynews.com/issues/april/s042702d.htm Ok keep in mind this is not a "Trade these scrubs or this star for Iverson and go to the playoffs!" The sixers want to make a change, but the question I have is would you even want him? You'd probably have to give up Francis, though I shouldn't use the word 'have to' since you are getting Iverson in return. Iverson has had alot of people question his practice habits and character, which is always a -. If you were CD, what would you do? AI might bring more fans to the game, also. I think it's a tough call.. WWYD?
No thanks. I don't see the guy having a long enough remaining career worth sacrificing too much over. To his credit he gets too banged up.... Get bigger.
pretty interesting to note most people would choose to stay with SF than go a proven star that can carry his team... I sure hope they're right
I wouldn't equate Francis's migraines with Iverson's chronic injuries. If Francis finds a way to avoid the migraines then it will never affect his game. Once they're gone, they're gone. Iverson, do to the way he plays, is always getting banged around inside and those things take a chronic toll on the body. I'm not saying he's fragile or anything like that cause I think he's one tough dude. The body can only take so much, however, and he is almost certain (imo) to have a fairly short career as a superstar. In my mind Iverson-at-his-best > Francis-at-his-best but beat-up-Iverson < Francis w/ little or no migraine problems.
a Francis-Iverson backcourt would be sick EG+ cap fill + no 5 for AI? talk about fast break If the 76ers move Iverson they have to rebuild. They have PG and SF locked up with Harpring and Snow... Deke and Coleman are just about done... Clippers could make a Maggette, Kandi + 2 2002 1st rounders package for Iverson... turn around and trade Deke for DD and Bonzi or something
I'd take iverson over SF. 1. Iverson can lead his team. but i don't think he can lead with the guys we got now. he has mckie, snow, mutombo, coleman, etc. he goes here and finds himself w/ cat, griffin, cato, moochie...he'll go nuts 2. He gets injured but he's a gamer. 3. SF would flourish on another team that has a coach that can 100% utilize his talents rather than hinder them *coughrudycough*. i like to see steve succeed.
Iverson misses too many shots. Do you guys seriously think Francis can't shoot as much as Iverson, the same shots, and make the same percentage? Difference is, Francis rebounds and involves his teammates. Deke and coleman had to tell AI to cough it up. Seriously, I think Francis, on the Sixers, with the same instructions, would do better. Think about it for a second. All he has to do is score. Iverson/Cat backcourt? We might as well have a Cato/Bowen/ Ben Wallace frontcourt because no one is ever going to get the ball anyway.
Iverson's shooting 39 percent from the field. That's horrible. Francis is better than Iverson. Iverson's team's offense is bad, because all he does is gone. The only reason they win is because of their defense. Iverson is a horrible defender. If you guys hate Francis's defense, then you'll be crying when you see AI's on the ball defense. Iverson is also a punk, and his work ethic sucks. Everyone always says how he has the heart of the champion. HE SKIPPED THE SIXERS LAST PRACTICE BECAUSE HE HAD A NOSE BLEED! He doesn't show up for practice, guns to much, is a terrible defender, and is not a team player! SF shows up for practice, doesn't gun enough, is a good defender, and is a team player.
I think you shoulkd have kept the poll as a simple "yes" or "no." I don't know if the reasoning you gave behind each answer necessarrily equates to the reason people would vote the way they do. That being said, I would not want Iverson on the Rockets. I think that he is the most overrated player in the league. I give him a lot of credit for playing through injuries, but the injuries are his fault. Learn to shoot better and you don't have to drive to the basket every play. Iverson has carried his team on occassion, but at the same time, is just as responsible for the team not being more successful. It's called selfishness, and it is prevalent on and off the court. Granted, he has kept it in check a little more the last couple of years, but it's still there. Francis is the more complete player. And he doesn't whine or cry nearly as much. Damn those migraines, though.
Iverson: Francis: 31.4 PPG 21.6 PPG 4.50 RPG 7.0 RPG 5.50 APG 6.4 APG 2.80 SPG 1.25 SPG .398 FG% .417 FG% .812 FT% .773 FT% .291 3P% .324 3P% 43.7 MPG 41.1 MPG -------------------------------------------------------------- PPG: Iverson by head and shoulders, but this can be contributed to his # of shots. RPG: Francis loves to rebound. Easily wins, although his rebounding numbers sometimes hinder our fast breaks. APG: Francis wins this one - with all the shots AI takes, he still only averages one less assist than SF. SPG: AI's defense is horrible. ... Maybe he gets lucky twice a game.. FG%: Francis wins but not by much - IMO if SF took as many shots as AI, he'd be equal to AI's or lower. FT%: AI - not much to say here? 3P%: Both horrible, kind of sad the winner, SF, wins with 32% - and we blast Rice/Wizard for less than 40%... ------------------- Like I said, Iverson has alot of question marks, but hes a warrior. I wonder how SF would do on the Sixers - though I don't think he could carry them to the finals (yet) like AI..
Iverson is an enigma. He's a very talented player without any doubt. There are few players who are as quick, how many guys can dribble or crossover as well as he does? As talented as he is, he's still a head case when it comes to being a team player. If Iverson were the same size as Steve, there's no question he would be better than Francis. You also can't forget about the heart this guy has. He has to be the toughest player in the league, no question. The NBA doesn't want many more characters like Iverson, but if more players had his heart, the league would be far better than it has ever been before.
The Sixers went to the finals because they had a great defensive team to go with Iverson. If you put Wink on last years Sixers, they still would have a very good team. They may not have been as good, but they would have been close. If you put AI on this years Rockets, they would still suck. AI and Wink both need a star player on the inside to complement them for them to be at their best. And a good defensive team, of course.
If we had to trade Iverson for Francis, I would not. Iverson is a better player than Francis and could take us somewhere, but his recurring injuries worry me.
I also wouldn't want Iverson over Francis..EVER, but let me remind you of one word Rocketblast.....MIGRAINES
