so im a college student, and this summer, im working a job painting houses (exterior) for $8 an hour. its not too bad in general--i work 40 hour weeks, it gives me something to do, i get some cash in my pocket, and i get to spend all day outside. so, in general, the job is pretty good.

but for the last three days, ive been working on this huge house with my painting partner (we work in crews of two). im not that afraid of heights per se, but when we put the ladder as high as it can go all the way up above the third story, it scares me so bad. the ladder wobbles, you feel like youre going to fall, and you have to use both hands to paint so youre balancing with your knees basically. it sucks to paint this high house, but whatever, were gonna bone up and deal with it.

however, the people whose house we are painting are complete d*ckheads. every little mistake we make, they notice. they make us go up and put on multiple coats of paint on something that looks fine and takes hours to do. a job that was supposed to be done in two days, theyve stretched it out to three full days (10 extra hours). i get paid per house budget, which means that if my boss thinks this job will take 30 hours to do, we get paid for 30 hours no matter when we finish the house. now that its gone over budget, we are basically working for nothing. thats not even all they did, im just too tired right now to even type all the stupid stuff we had to do out.

after all of this, after giving us 10 extra hours of tedious, frightening, and hard work, we dont even get a thank you at the end of the day today. instead, she checks on the house and says 'i see you got some paint on the brick there'. one smudge. 40 feet up. now i get to go back tommorrow. im seriously starting to hate these people, and i definatley hate their stupid unnesseccarily big house.

so, although this isnt the worst job ive ever had (that has to go to catering...screw that) it was probably one of the worst days ive had working. anybody else have any bad days/horrible job experiences? misery loves company they say, so cheer me up ;)

Go back in the middle of the night in a few weeks and take a big **** on the hood of their car. It won't make you any money but it will make you feel better.

I deliver chinese food right now, its almost as bad. 5.75 per hour plus $2 for each trip for gas. Rarely does anyone tip 10%. Also people like to live in places with no damn address number on their house or curb. Man that ticks me off.

Cutting and tying rebar (reinforcing steel) for concrete foundations. I was very young- but this was the very worst- hot weather, hot steel to lift and move, backbreaking - bent over all day tying the bars with tie wire.

I made the whole summer and did not quit- but it was really bad. There were very few people on the crew that were over about 28.

My ex-brother-in-law (when he was still dating my sister) and I worked for his brother who owned a tree-cutting business for a while. I'd work after school, cutting up the limbs he cut off, stacking them on the trailer and hauling them off. It sucked bad. If I didn't wear gloves, my hands would be cut up badly. If I did wear gloves, I'd go through a pair every two or three days. And he'd pay a little here and a little there, never a full paycheck at the end of a job. That job didn't last long.

I've held other "sucky" jobs like carwasher, shoe salesman, mover, but I actually enjoyed those at times. I never enjoyed the tree cutting.

My worst job was easily dishwasher in at one of the dining halls while I was in college.

It was a really fun job when there were about 4 of us in there all helping out.

But sometimes I would just be in there by myself on a Saturday morning after a long night of drinking.

I'd say while working there I probaly threw up a half dozen occasions while going through everyboys crap...

I've had worse jobs but they were do more to being underpaid but that is the most disgusting job I've had which was mostly fault for going in hungover.

You guys are doing the wrong stuff.

I have been a baseball umpire for ages.....nearly seven full years to be exact.

I make $40 a game, hour and fourty five minute time limit. Pretty awesome for the hours. It isn't back breaking and I enjoy the hell out of it.

I'm now working on collecting deliquent accounts for a local appliance chain.

I've had some real great jobs.

working sales in a call center for a big...BIG computer company based in roundrock texas. ;)

I feel ya tho, sometimes going through this terrible job isnt a bad thing. It'll teach you how bad things can get, so whatever job you get in the future, and however much it sucks, just look back at trying to clean that one brick.

Goodluck with everything and just keep your head up. TRUST ME, when you graduate and bust your ass working for corporate america or wherever, just look back at today and no matter how hard or difficult the field of work ur doing, it could be worse.
