Check at 41 minute mark, he says Clyde doesn't care about stats because all he does is say whether a player is good or bad. They're joking but it's the truth and Clyde does not even disagree, says a lot.

This is clearly the beginning of a 6 month story arc that ends with them at Announclemania....winner takes all the calvin murphy suits!

Stats aren't everything when evaluating talent.

I agree that Stats aren't everything, but maybe if Clyde took a gander at them every once in awhile he might realize that Greg Smith's name is not Grant Cook(assuming he means Brian Cook who is obviously not a Rocket anymore).

it's true what he says, couldn't care less about stats in a preseason game. the more important thing is what a guy does and what he doesn't do, how active he is, how he moves and reacts.

my bigger problem with these commentators are their occasional stupid jokes and non stop blabbering. sometimes it's like a TV show, not a game. also, the other guy (Bull?) gets his facts wrong, which is fine for the 'analyst' which is Clyde in this case I guess, but just inexusable for the lead guy. Also, Clyde does have some curious ideas for an analyst sometimes...

Aside from his ever so popular obvious and corny comments, not gathering stats and informations about players is what makes Clyde a horrible tv analyst.

Clyde said during the last game "If Jeremy Lin really wanted to stay in New York, we would've taken less money." Honestly, does he even know how the situation went down? New York refused to give Lin an offer, said they'll match anything he gets. Lin gets 1 offer from the Rockets and signs it. New York declines to match. I'm OK with him not knowing the stats, but he is so clueless about NBA current events. He went on and on about how Austin Rivers is a super star in the making. Bull and Bill were just trying to back pedal and not agree too much because they know Rivers is all hype.

It only says Clyde is old school. A lot of the older players don't over think stats.

They made him an analyst on face value alone. He and tommy heinsohn are two of the worst commentators/analyts in the league. Both are clueless and painful to listen to. At least Tommy is biased with his Celtics, i'll give him that. Clyde on the other hand tends to praise other team's players too much when they don't even deserve it. Having to listen to him can be quite infuriating.

Most people in here are missing the point, Worrell is saying the guy is not doing his homework and doesn't ever talks about stats and knows nothing about players, thus can only say he's good or bad. He doesn't even the names of our own players, how embarrassing is that. Leslie should watch a game and have a serious conversation with him about professionalism, the guy gets paid a lot for doing a lousy job!

I don't understand why people still misunderstand this, stats aren't used alone to evaluate talent. STATS VERIFY OR REJECT YOUR EVALUATION OF THE TALENT! Morey incorporates traditional talent evaluations with numbers. This is a good marriage because numbers/stats require you to be more diligent in your evaluations because you have to quantify everything you see with traditional talent evaluations. Stats give you a higher probability for success but does not guarantee it. The goal of stats is to lower the number of defects in your output/product but looking into and quantifying your inputs.

Tommy is at least entertaining IMO. Which is why many of his calls are on youtube. It's fun to hear him screaming bloody murder over some small call and then proceed to whine about the refs the rest of the game.

    Clyde is just...he's just boring.

Worrell sounded annoyed that Bull and Clyde were trashing the stat team.

Drexler speaks out of his ass.

    Always.

He's the worst and if you don't think he is then you're letting his playing career cloud your judgment.

I got news for you. Guys that talk for a living say ALOT of things, much if which they probably don't necessarily mean. You're right about the fact that they are joking, but that's probably about it. Don't put a lot of stock in every word these guys say.

Clyde has earned the right to say what he wants.
    1. He is old
    2. He is a Rocket legend
    3. He has a championship ring...with THE ROCKETS
    4. He is a Houston Cougar and part of Phi Slamma Jamma

    Plus its funny.

    He's 50.

That's 1 year younger than Obama and 15 years younger than Romney. I'm sure Bill Worrell is older as well.

But Clyde comes across like he's 75.
