Horrendous throw from Randy Winn out in left field. EDIT - now it looks like that Japanese guy left too early from 3rd base. No run.
Swung at a low an inside pitch to strikeout. Japan brought in a new pitcher to face ARod and the guy was all over the place while warming up. ARod got himself out, the pitcher didn't get him out.
Good call. The Japanese guy left early - the replay showed it. EDIT - on second viewing of the call, he didn't leave early. I think ESPN is having issues with their timing - the two replays they showed were different.
It was a good call, but I can't remember the last time a call was overturned during a baseball game. EDIT. The new replay shows that the original call was correct. The fix is in.
The second time they showed the replay over and over the call was not the right one. he did not leave early and with Winn's arm there was no reason to leave early. It was very close but i don't think he left early and that took some balls from the home plate umpire to overrule the other umpires safe call. I personally don't agree with the call and i agree with ESPN that if the home plate umpire is going to overturn the play then he better be 100% sure and i don't think he had that much of a better look at the play then the 3rd base ump to justify an overrule.
Not only robbed they would have still been batting with runners on base. Oh well...im sure they will talk about it for a while. Never know how the outcome would have been regardless but still were robbed of a run in that inning.
Yeah it's hard to say how it would have ended. Presumably two runs would have scored on A-Rod's single to center, but who knows what managerial decisions Japan would have made if they had the lead in that situation. It completely changes how the pitcher works to the hitters if you have a lead versus if you're tied. We'll never know what would have happened...
Can't say the players cheated....the umpire made the decision. So i am not saying the US cheated..but at the same time, to me that game was not ended the way it should have been. The true outcome will never happen so either way it was in a way handed to US at that point..or made easier for them since they weren't down after that inning.
http://www.worldbaseballclassic.com/2006/rosters/index.jsp?sid=t841 Italy might as well be USA 2 with those birthplaces.. basically all americans
They have two Rice Owls in Vince Sinisi and Phil Barzilla! Baylor Bear Mark Saccomanno also on their roster.
Puerto Rico just completely shut down the Dominican lineup. PR wins it, 7-1. Korea vs Mexico is now on. Korea has perhaps the cheapest looking hats I've ever seen in my life.
