Ever heard of Larry Walker or Eric Gagne? A Canadian from near where I grew up was a guy named Terry Puhl, who was a long time Astro you may have heard of. There are a quite a few Canadians in MLB. Not that many Canadians watch MLB mind you, either live or on television, but it’s a popular summertime sport for kids and a number have made it to the bigs.

I don't think they care about saving face or recruiting talent, it's all about making some money. Any thing after that is gravy.

There's some good talent all around and I'm a Baseball fan so I'm loving this stuff.

damn playground baseballers. the rest of the world is catching up to us because they know how to play the game, and the US is just a bunch of hotdog show offs with no fundamentals trying to make sportscenter with homers and such. it's not even good baseball, i mean one guy gets up to bat and everyone just stands around and watches him. i remember when i was a casual fan back in the 80s how everyone played perfectly and never made mistakes and the US was king. now i hope we lose b/c it'll be a wakeup call to American baseball players everywhere that we have to get back to playing the right way.

I've become mellower with my bad grammar tolerance, but a man can only take so much.

As for the Canadian team, way to go boys! Although if the people in charge of assembling the US team were replaced by mentally challenged monkeys, and the monkeys picked the team, I think they could have put together a better squad. Al Leiter?? Please.

Ah, ok. I must have missed the smiley. ;) Here’s a bit of trivia on Walker. He was good hockey player growing up and went to a training camp with the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League, which is Junior A hockey, the level that players get drafted into the NHL from. He would have probably been 17 or 18 at the time. He was a goalie prospect but he didn’t end up making the team so he decided to focus on baseball. It’s not hockey, but the baseball thing seemed to work out ok for him. ;)

Wow, you should really find something better to do with your time then. ;) Seriously, I never think about checking grammar mistakes when I read anything on an internet message board.

I like that. Though I do think American ball players do try and hit a homerun or get that strike out more than make the safe play.

Someone needs to learn how to celebrate after the ball is actually out of the park. What a dork.

Outside of the games involving the United States and Japan, the crowds for this thing have been terrible...

Well seeing as how most of the games are in the US and Japan, that makes some sense.

I thought it was interesting that the shortstop for Panama is none other than Orlando Miller who played with the Astros for a few years in the mid-90s and then was part of the first Houston-Detroit Brad Ausmus trade.

Even the USA's second game against Canada drew about half the fans as its first game against Mexico
