The Blazers have released their entire schedule. Orlando has a good group coming in today and tomorrow. The info for the Magic can be found on www.floridatoday.com Here is the link for the Blazers: http://blog.oregonlive.com/blazers/2008/06/blazers_unveil_workouts.html
A huge joint workout is supposedly scheduled in houston on monday between the Rockets and Timberwolves. 30 players are supposed to workout.
I am not sure if that number is correct. You can only have 6 players on the court this year working out at a time. Maybe the others will wait their turn??
There is a couple of names on hoops hype attributed to working out in Houston... http://hoopshype.com/workouts.htm 06/10: Dion Dowell 6-6 SG from Houston 06/11: George Hill 6-2 PG from IUPUI
A couple of players projected as being undrafted. http://www.iupuijags.com/news/2008/6/9/MBB_0609082045.aspx http://www.nbadraft.net/admincp/profiles/georgehill.html http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/George-Hill-5067/ http://www.heraldextra.com/content/view/269451/163/
Have there been any reports on who the Rockets are working out? I can't find any information on it at all.
Justin Hawkins showed up in my quick google search under Houston Rockets NBA draft workout... Hawkins continues to garner NBA attention http://www.lcsun-news.com/sports/ci_9570104
from the article.. Between workouts, Hawkins has been training in Houston with former NBA player and coach John Lucas. Hawkins said Denver Nuggets guard J.R. Smith and former first-round pick Gerald Green are also working out with Lucas. its good to see that Gerald Green is working out with John Lucas.
Searching around... Found that in addition to Dion Dowell and Hill (who I read may have skipped his workout?) Rox have worked out: Tyrone Brazelton JR Giddens (who I like) Dontell Jefferson Robert Vadden per http://hoopshype.com/past_workouts.htm
Quick rundown of those guys... Tyrone Brazelton -- measured out sub 6 foot without a special wingspan. Mediocre sprint/agility times, and a sub 30'' vertical (AB had a 39.5'' vert, best agility, and great sprint scores, with a 6-4 wingpsan). Number in college were decent -- 14 ppg, 4 apg, 43% 3P shooter. Very inconsistent though -- capable of some big things, like a 31 point outburst against UCLA in the tourney (loss), and a 33 point effort to upset Drake in the first round. Brazelton is shorter, less athletic, with less of a pedigree relative to Brooks. Dontell Jefferson -- He's been in the D-League the last 2 years. Not draft eligible as far as I can tell (24 years old, graduated from Arkansas 2 years ago). 6-5 combo guard, put up 17-5-5 in the D-League with 2 steals. Supposed to be a really good defender and really athletic. Doesn't seem to have a 3 point shot (>33% in the D-League). Averaged almost 3 turnovers a game, so needs to work on decision making. Robert Vaden -- Measured out at just under 6-5 in shoes. 6-8 wingspan is ok. Sprint was in the bottom tier, and lane agility not much better. Sub 30 inch vertical. Only 6.2% body fat. Put up over 21 a game for UAB. FG% was poor (40%), but nice FT% (86%) and 3P% (40%) -- more impressive considering he put up over 10 3PA's a game! He missed all of 06-07 due to transfer rules (from Indiana), and has year of eligibility which it seems like he may take. JR Giddens -- Measured out at just under 6-5 (was a full 6-4 barefoot, thin shoes?), but with a wingspan over 6-11. Also impressive 5.4% body fat. Didn't jump or run, but there aren't many doubts about his athleticism. Former McD's All-American who played for Kansas for 2 years before transferring to New Mexico. Was stabbed in a bar fight in 2005. Was suspended indefinitely from New Mexico for undisclosed reasons. Averaged 16 pts, 9 rebs, 3 assists, with over 1 steal and 1 block a game. Shot only 33% beyond the arc on about 2 attempts per game -- his freshman year, he shot over 40% on nearly 6 attempts per game. FT% was a career worst 59% his senior year -- never shot about 67% from the line. Improved his AST and AST/TO ratio every year.
Is Hibbert is the only first round quality player we are working out? This really is beginning to look like a trade with Minnesota -- #25 for #31 and #34 -- so we don't have to pay a guaranteed contract. Of course, Morey will screw those up llike the Landry contract so they too wind up untradeable.
