I went to look at a Word document on my computer today and the icon had changed. When I went to open it it said I needed Microsoft Office to open it.

My mom just wrote me an email that she can't get into a Word document and her icon had changed also.

    Anybody know why?

(I right clicked on my folder and selected 'open with', 'Word Pad' and got mine open to look at anyway)

    Right click the file
    Click Properties
Tell us what "Type of File" it is, and what app it "Opens with"

Well now even my Word starter says "click 2 run configuration failure"

The file type is : DOCX File (.docx)
    Opens with: Microsoft Office

I've never had or never needed anything but starter on this computer, my mom too

    * all my documents have change icons to microsoft word and won't open.
under my computer, uninstall there is an icon for Word 2010, I have a dim memory that I may have installed a copy from my wife's non-profit

    * edit 2, I'm pretty sure I installed it from the same disc on her computer....did the license expire?
