It looks like the Desperate Housewives of the BBS have their hands full of gossip for the next bingo night. It's going to be a wild one, highlighted by the bubbliest of bacardi breezers and Save Haiti bracelets.

Keep up the good work Sammy, we couldn't have done this without you.

    NEWS FLASH!!!

Presidents don't have the ability to do everything and anything they want once they get elected.

That being said, I think it is at least a little early to declare Obama a "flip-flopper" because he hasn't been able to close Guantanimo or get all the troops out of Iraq in thirteen months. I don't know of anyone who believed as highly of Obama as the straw man that basso and MojoMan like to hold up, nor a single person that thought he would be able to make all the changes he wanted, and it is hard to fault a President who takes on big issues like health care when it would be easier to "kick the issue down the road" for another four or eight years.

I am certainly disappointed in a couple of things that Obama hasn't gotten done, he should have been more forceful on healthcare reform, if he had then I believe we would have had a signed bill by now. I am also disappointed that he hasn't pushed through reforms and tougher oversight of the financial sector, but there is still a lot of time for that.

There are also a number of things that Obama has done of which I am very proud. He engaged the Muslim world in a way that no President before ever has, an action that I think will bear fruit in the future. He recommitted to Afghanistan, where the Taliban were resurgent and our efforts were beginning to falter. He attempted healthcare reform, which was a lot like going all-in with his political capital, and this was a very brave thing for a politician to do. He also told the world that we will not torture, if only on his watch, which does a lot to change the way the US is perceived around the world for the better.

I do find it amusing that basso is trumpeting a new regime in 2013 given his stunning lack of prognostication ability to date. I don't currently see anyone who could challenge Obama in '12, Palin won't have the support and all the other front runners (Warner, Stanford) have imploded in one way or another.

Either way, this article seems like the rest of the garbage that basso posts, though I, like Sam, do appreciate that he added his own commentary rather than just being a CTRL-C, CTRL-X warrior.

A question to the OP and others who agree with his position that Obama is goign to be a one term President. Did you guys think that in 1994 Clinton was going to be a one term president? And if you are old enough in 1982 did you think that Reagan was going to be a one term president? I982 a few pundits were even saying that Reagan might nor run for reelection.

For that matter if you are old enough did any of you think that in 1991 following the victory of Gulf War I did you think that GH Bush would be a one term president?

    Very good question.

With all the problems that Clinton was having prior to the 1996 elections, I did think he was one and done until just a month or so before the election. Bob Dole, who is more of a moderate Republican, as were John McCain and George H.W. Bush, was just not a sufficiently compelling candidate to pull of the victory. I do not believe that Clinton won that race so much as Dole lost it. But under those circumstance, Clinton gets credit for the win any way you slice it.

So, it is still too early to be picking winners and losers in the 2012 presidential race. Obama could still win a second term, although I do not believe he is currently on the right track to do that. And a sufficiently non-compelling candidate, such as Bob Dole or George H.W. Bush in 1992, put up by the Republicans could still do a lot to undermine any advantage that the Republicans might have going into 2012.

And the Republican candidate will not be Sarah Palin. So let's try not to hijack the thread by going through all that again.

I'm pretty sure this is directed at me since I am the latest to have mentioned Sarah Palin.

Please note that I said that Sarah Palin would NOT have the support to win the presidency and as a point of clarification, I don't believe she would have anywhere near the support to be the GOP nominee. I fully expect her to continue to cash in on her notoriety on Faux "News" and through her ghost writing deals. I don't believe that she wants to work hard enough to become president and really don't think she actually believes she has what it takes to win. She is an opportunist who is making the most out of the situation that John McCain handed her when he tapped her to run for VP on his ticket.

watching the history channel program on the presidents over the last few hours and ending with the lincoln presidency brought this thread to mind. to listen to people complain because someone isn't rock solid behind some position is so freakin silly. that's not leadership, its stubborness

Since the BJ vs FFB title match didn't go down during the previous New Years Eve, I suggest a different approach......an Elimination Chamber match with...

Sadly it won't happen. But if the timing would work at a time when I was in Houston I would of course be happy to do it.

MojoMan, like Jorge before him, wouldn't ever engage with me in a structured debate based on facts and available evidence. His ego couldn't take the smackdown.

I doubt it would be epic. a lot of huffin and puffin. a lot of name calling and pure bore.

a truly epic debate imo would be twhy77 vs. FranchiseBlade. 2 extremely well informed posters who never resort to pettiness.
