I'm confused. Why do you need to buy a new router if your wireless card went out? You could just buy a wireless USB for you HP and connect to your existing router.

Yup. If the card in the HP went out you need to replace the card ('receiver'). If the router itself is still putting out the wireless signal it doesn't need to be replaced.

Maybe he meant his ethernet card went out and he wants to go wireless now.

Except that he explicitly wrote "wireless card".

Is your "wireless card thing" inside your computer? Do you need to open the case to remove it? Does it have a plug?

What kind of wireless router do you have now?

Rather than create a new thread i'll just bump an old one....

I'm having some problems with my Linksys Router. Normally, we have three computers + my Ipod Touch all working off the same network but lately the internet has been acting funky. As of now the internet will only work on our main computer and won't work in any other areas of the house. I suspect it's a problem with the router.

As for my Ipod Touch, the device is detecting the wireless network like it normally would be however it will not connect and function properly. I've tried resetting the router, unplugging the router and unplugging the modem. Nothing seems to help.

Any suggestions or has this happened to anybody else? Thanks in advance!

Have you checked for new firmware?

Hmm....I probably should have mentioned that i'm not very computer savy. Would this be similar to a Windows Update or something along those lines?

What I would do is connect to the router. Generally you can do this through a web browser by going to http://192.168.1.1. It may also be 192.168.1.0 or 192.168.0.1. The username and password are generally "admin" and "password" (without the quotes). If you browse around, there should be a link to upgrade firmware. Click on it and follow the directions.

Good point. I hadn't thought to try accessing the setup page. I have been to the http://192.168.1.1 page before but unfortunately it won't let me access that page this time. I appreciate your efforts but this is very strange!

If you can't access it wirelessly, try connecting via cable.

It also could be that the router is fried.
