I get an unsecured wireless signal from my apartment complex's leasing office in my apartment The signal is normally very strong and I get 54kbps connections. However sometimes the signal fades a little. I used to have wireless internet at my place so I have a linksys router which I no longer use. Is it possible to use that router as a booster for the signal I am receiving, or do I need to buy one of those booster things? Edit: 54mbps
I have a signal booster at my parents house which isnt connected ot the router. I have it on the other side of the house and it picks up the signal and boosts it.
It would be sweet if you could use a router for the same purpose! I consider my free internet as compensation for being forced to use PHONOSCOPE CABLE....They are absolutely horrible!
Anyone know of a good make/model of signal booster? Do these thingies work that well? Our shared network router is a couple of apts. down from mine & the signal fades at times. Very annoying.
This is what I use at my parents house....it works like a charm. I used to get a fading signal in the kitchen because my router is all the way on the other side of the house in his office. I put this range extender right next to the kitchen and now I get full signal anywhere in the house at all times. All I had to do was plug it in too. Cnet Review The price they have listed is way too expensive though
If you can't pick up the signal clearly, I don't think a signal booster is going to help you - it be able won't pick it up to boost it (conjecture). Normally signal boosters are used inbetween your source and your target. I got a Linksys wireless adapter with SRX - it's picking up signals from all over my neighbourhood. This thing has 3 antennas and does some fancy stuff to really improve your reception and speed. It did cost me over $100, but it was worth it. With my old adapter, I was lucky to be able to see my network and maybe 1 other - now I can see at least 8-10.
I get the signal very clearly. Do you know if a router can be used as a signal booster? I have a Linksys Wireless G router that I would like to use as a booster to the signal I am receiving
i can pick of 5 free signals from my apt. all together its so sweet. the i use use usally is so freaking fast that its put my past dsl and cable modems to shame.
Took me all afternoon to find out how to do it. I have not set it up yet though. If I plug my linksys router in, and the one I am leeching from is also a default linksys router, then both of their IP addresses would be the same right? 192.168.1.1. How do I know which one I am changing to the client router?
