Been using a Mac for about 4 years & my Microsoft skills are rusty. Got new laptop, don't want Vista. Need to format HD & install XP from scratch. How the hell do I boot to DOS (not command prompt through Windows)? Should be easy from there, IIRC. "format c:", right? Is there anything else I'm forgetting?
It doesn't like that. Won't boot to the CD. Won't run the install because the OS is older than the one already on it. Why didn't I buy another Mac? I can't remember.
you have to go into your BIOS and change the boot order. you know how when you first boot up, it says press F1 or ESC for setup? that's what you ahve to do. Chnage the boot order to Cd first. The XP setup allows you to format the HD no matter what's installed on tehre since you're running it off the CD and not the HD after you change the boot order.
It won't boot to the cd? It should always be able to boot to the cd. You might have to go into the bios and change the order of bootable devices because it might have the hard drive set to the first device to look for instead of your cd-rom drive.
