Microsoft has come out with an antispyware add on to windows. It's only in its beta version, but is available to download. Just thought I would give the heads up. well...hate them all you want.. This somabitch just solved all my problems! Finally! Spyware free! Lava soft (adaware) couldn't get rid of it, either could spybot. something on my computer was keeping my browsers from letting me access the internet. It kept pressing the stop button when I tried to go to a site. I couldn't get rid of winservad if my life depended on it. Now it's all good! This + Spybot, and Adaware in my opinion are must haves!
I wouldn't start putting it on any machines other than your own just yet though. I tried it at work on my machine and it worked fine, but I had no spyware installed, so it didn't really have to do any work. But I've read a bunch of reviews, and they are overall positive, but a lot of people have it crash a lot. I think it's going to turn out to be a nice addition, but I'd wait until it's quite a bit more stable before I install it anywhere notable. I am very much looking forward to it being "finished" though.
It looks like it's going to be pretty good, but here's my problem: If Microsoft can come out with software that will remove spyware, why can't they fix their browser so that it doesn't put a "Welcome" mat out for spyware in the first place? The reason: when this is no longer beta, you're going to have to pay for it.
It will end up as part of the browser or operating system eventually. I'm giving it a go too. It found a couple of things that Spybot and AdAware didn't.
I downloaded the beta, have used it, and it found a few things. Then I ran Spybot again (the freeware), and it found 5 spyware cookies, and something it's been showing since I first used it, and have been afraid to get rid of. Perhaps someone could give me a clue as to what this is? It's under "DSO Exploit," and affects the registry. Here's what Spybot showed, at least one of them... DSO Exploit: Data source object exploit (Registry change, nothing done) HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\0\1004!=W=3 Is this something to get rid of? What the heck is it? Thanks in advance! The Microsoft beta didn't show these DSO Exploits. (6 total... this is one above)
MS didn't write this -- they bought the company Giant, and dropped a new visual on their spyware removal tool.
Dude, I don't care if it is a Beta. It found TWO trojans I had on my computer that NAV failed to detect, and it deleted all the files that neither Spyware Blaster, Spybot SnD, nor Adaware could.
I still think Microsoft's primary goal is to annoy me. Want to validate my copy of Windows? No, actually I don't want you snooping around my computer, but fine. It doesn't work. Takes me to another program that tells me to find my product key. Somewhat annoyed I type that in. That window closes, taking me back to the one I was at before. Then I notice that the SP2 toolbar says the reason the PREVIOUS page didn't work was because I don't have the correct activex whatever. I install it and it works. I miss Windows w/o SP2.
That's what I say. I thought it was hilarious to have one by Microsoft...but eh. I downloaded it and booya! It cleaned up the stuff that was caussing me problems for the past 4 months and I couldn't get rid of them till this came around.
It's possible that MS could put in files that only their program could detect but are actually benign in origin. If only to gain credibility for something that isn't refined as it could be.
Last night I was looking for a particular application torrent which tried installing some of the more common spyware(i.e. 1 800 Search, Internet Optimizer) and the Windows Anti-Spyware Tool stopped them all dead in their tracks.
I'm liking it so far. It blocked a couple of things this morning from a torrent site. True, but what it fount that none of the online scanners, or adaware, or spybot found was a serious spyware problem on my pc. It wouldn't let me use my browser after being in windows for more than 5 min or so. But now my pc is running perfectly!
