I will admit he has tried numerous things to rework his game, and improve. I understand that. It's just his attitude that bothers me. A brief comment on the whole Novak injury thing... It's one thing to believe that about him, but to come out and make fun of it during a press conference when Novak hadn't said a thing to or about Andy was a pure a-hole thing to do. Novak did have some serious injuries early on in his career including a collapsed lung at one point. Roddick isn't a doctor and has no idea what was happening in that match. If he wanted to say something to Novak about it personally that's one thing... But to come out and mock him to the press was the move of a true jackass. I will say that Novak pulling out later in Australia was weak on his part. I like to watch tennis, and the players I like are the really mobile ones like Monfils, or the ones with extra personality like Baghdatis. Certainly Baghdatis isn't a top 10 player but I love watching him play. He tries hard, is funny, and displays a lot of personality. But he isn't trying hard at it like Roddick. I think the difference is that Baghdatis is funny because he likes being that way. Roddick is funny because he's trying to put on a show to get people to like him and construct his image. It's fine if other people like Andy, and we have a difference of opinion. I don't hold that against anyone.
I'm really rooting for Roddick this time - he has been much more humble and likable lately -- i'm a little tired of Feds dominance. Pete shares his record for a while longer as well.
Careful, Cheetah, most date rapists start out behaving like normal dudes. That's when they strike. As a tennis fan, I'm just surprised that my reading of a player is so radically different from someone else's. Let's all go back to agreeing on what a waste Lleyton Hewitt is: Spoiler <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/6dUGXtiMNqk&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/6dUGXtiMNqk&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Yes, on that we can agree. Don't be too surprised that I have different take on Roddick. I think my take on players is somewhat out of the norm. I don't think too many folks have Baghdatis as one their top players. I also like Tsonga, Monfils, and Andy Murray a little bit, just because his game is so different from other guys. I don't like Nadal, but don't really dislike him, though sometimes his fashion sense annoys me. I don't mind Roger, but because he's never the underdog I can't really get behind him that much. I used to like James Blake a lot, and I guess I still do, but he always ends up disappointing in the end, and I hate the stupid Jay Block fans. I think Novak is kind of funny, and I like him enough, but sometimes he frustrates me, and he went down a notch after quitting because it was hot at the Australian and he was losing. But yes, Hewitt is a complete waste.
I started disliking Roddick when he was dating my future wife, Mandy Moore. However, I can't stand Murray so I was rooting for Roddick today. I'm also happy Roddick's game is less one dimensional.
I like Roddick as well, and I find it hard to root against the American, but I do want to see Federer break the record at Wimbledon. He is the best, and although Roddick has a better chance against him this year than he may have had over the past few years, Federer will still win. Even if Nadal had been in Wimbledon this year, I thin Federer would have won. It took the "greatest tennis match of all-time" to barely beat him in a Wimbledon final. Now that he has tied Sampras' record, he is not going to be denied.
Wow. A white Leyton Hewitt complaining about Blake getting a racial advantage. What did all the other officials have in common with Hewitt?
Fed crushed haas. W/O nadal it will be hard to beat the Roger. Even with nadal it would take nadal playing out of his mind to beat him on grass.
Roddick's backhand was pretty nice. Sorry for the spoiler guys, I just find it funny how American tennis gets ripped day in and out by tennis experts and in the two finals 3 out of the 4 finalist are American. I like Roger but I am going to root for Andy. He seems to want this title as much as anyone. His serve was great against Murray who is arguably a better returner then Fed. If he can beat Murray on the baseline then he can give Fed a run for his money.
I still can't get the Roddick with a roofie in hand/ date rapist out of my mind. I think I will always remember this image. lol.
so when are they playing? i dont usually follow tennis..and my gosh i never been so confused about trying to find a match time.
It should be a great match tomorrow, but I can't decide which one to cheer for. On one hand I want Federer to get the record finally, and on the other hand I like Roddick and wish he could win another major to rejuvenate his career...
Federer is good but I've never been able to root for him. Maybe it's because he acts like a female oscar winner after every victory or because Nadal emotionally cripples him everytime they play. Maybe it's because I think Sampras deserves to hold the GS record due to being such a great serve and volley player. Maybe it's because Roger's wife is slightly on the chubby side. Great player, but the greatest?
I love these guys that click on a thread titled "Wimbledon Final" and complain that the thread starter ruined who was going to be in the Wimbledon final. Man, that Williams match was really boring. Too bad Venus couldn't convert one of her two break points, would've been more competitive. Spoiler Did I just ruin that match that happened eight hours ago?
I'm guessing from the posts that came directly after the OP, the original title contained something like "Federer vs. Roddick Wimbledon Finals!!" Hence, people complained for ruining the Murray vs. Roddick match (since it wasn't being aired live) and wanted the title changed to "Wimbledon Final".
I wasn't one complaining earlier, but before you stick your head in **** you should realize that the original title wasn't "wimbledon final" it was "wimbledon finals: roddick vs. federer" and it was in the astros forum. so yeah there was room for complaint at the time.
