Swopa- correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Sura moonlight at point guard some last year?

From a talent standpoint, Sura is not a downgrade from Walt. Still, until our backup PG solution is found (Moochie or other), I'd be hesitant to trade away a great trade chip like Walt's expiring contract.

Great point NIKEstrad,

I think Sura played at Florida State with Sam I Am, and may have actually been drafted higher. They may have come out one year apart. I love his game: he is tough and likes to take it to the hole. Not as good a 3 pt. shooter as Walt but I agree he's an upgrade and we could use his experience as a backup 2 or even 3. Overall, however, taking his contract is a high price to pay for securing Jackson

A few things (IMO)

1. Walt and Rice are not the same player. Rice is better and there is no comparison.

2. If trading Walt for Sura gets the deal done, then do it. Sura may be injury prone but no more so than Walt. Sura, when healthy, is best when he is in an up tempo offense

3. As far as taking on the last 3 yrs of Sura's contract as opposed to Walts final year...who cares??!! It's not like we will have enough caproom to make a significant pitch to any free agent anyhow...especially with M Jax locked up, Rice locked up, and Franchise getting his payday next summer.

Picking up Sura's contract is the killer in this deal. I remember (as in the past) how Sura would drive to the hole and dunk with authority. That's the player we need, not one that would be injury prone. We already have an athletic team, so maybe keeping Walt would not be that bad of an idea. He can sit on the perimeter and jack up threes.

I would love Sura if he would stay healthy, but I don't like the salary hit.

Huh?

Sura is 6'5
Moochie is 6'1

Sura outrebounds mooch almost 2-1. Mooch has slightly higher field goal percentages but defensively Sura is a giant upgrade on both Walt and Mooch.

Walt Williams shoots better from three-point range than Sura does from the field.

Then again, Walt Williams shoots better from three-point range than Walt Williams does from the field.

Moonlight? Hell, he was brought in with the idea of making him the full-time starter -- and he did start at PG for a week or so when he first came off the IR (after hurting his back in training camp), since that coincided with Mookie spraining an ankle.*

He definitely had good moments, but playing Sura at PG long-term exacerbates his flaws (like decision-making) and really hurts his FG%. Cleveland learned the same lesson.

* -- Does this give you some idea how the Warriors' entire season went last year?
