I was just curious does anyone know if Ewing is going to come back and coach next year? We havent heard much since the beggining of the offseason, Herb isnt going to be the coach...Just curious?
I was opposed to him coming, just for the fact that I didn't like the mass influx of knicks stuff here so much... JVG was enough... but once I thought about it... I was like, Ok, well, he should be able to teach Yao the ropes, and greatness will come from within or it won't. But... from what I have read, watched, and seen (granted, I don't practice with the guys, to be fair) it seems like Ewing has only ever been marginally interested in working [here]. That's just my impression. It could be misconception based on media feed and my general dislike for the fact that [they] shook down Phi Slamma Jamma, I don't know... but I have read several articles that imply he is only "so" interested in being here... and there's no room for that. I don't know. With Herb out in New York, his status here is uncertain. I'm betting he will be back. Which is fine by me. I know no one here really has any clue how much work Ewing does or doesn't do or how much effect he has or does not have. He's an assistant, so unless he was being actively groomed and promoted to be a head coach, we wouldn't know.
If the Rockets really want to have someone teach Ming the low post game who more qualified than Moses Malone? Ewing was more of a high post player. I have never understood why we brought in Ewing instead of Malone other than the NY connection.
Yao does not need his own personal coach anymore. he never really did. his game if fine the way it is. now if there is a coach who can teach him to stay on the court for more than 30 minutes a game then by all means hire his ass asap.
I agree. Every time someone mentions Kareem Abdual Jabbar, I want to tell them if they've noticed that Yao has actually developed a pretty impressive jump-hook on his own. Starting from about Feb on, Yao's jump-hook was downright unstoppable. And it's not as if Kareem had to deal with Yao's biggest problem on offense: How to beat a zone defense that fronts with one player, and sends help on the backside. Right now with Deke showing Yao the ropes on defense, that is all that he needs.
actually i think stro will help yao a lot. since we are talking about what yao needs to improve upon... yao needs to: 1. play good defense without fouling. 2. stay on the floor more that 30 minutes. (related to #1) 3. be effective consistantly on offense, even against a fronting zone. swift will actually help yao on defense. he will step up and go for blocks and defensive stops where as Jho did nothing on defense. this will keep some fouls away from yao and keep him on the floor longer.
