If you weren't egotistical in the first place, you probably wouldn't get into politics.

If you have to be conservative to frown on an adulterous, lying, lecherous, amoral perv with a cucumber down his pants as your Congressmen what does that say about Liberals? Lol.

Get this freak out of there. I'm sure he'd be happier in some other line of work. Maybe he can go work for Jon Stewart mocking Palin or Iran or w/e.

I don't have a problem with any grief anybody wants to heap on Weiner. He earned it fair and square. Pile on. I'm just sorry we've lost the doppleganger to Cantor. That dude is evil.

Elliot Spitzer, Tiger, Farve, Weiner..sigh... I have no hero's, I trust no one.

you arent "defending" him, but you call others "silly" when they express their disappointment w/ him.

as usual, the cover-up is worse than the crime. he is a liar who has no credibility. he should resign - he will not be able to perform his job effectively b/c everyone knows he is a liar and everyone will be making fun of him behind his back.

he got up on national tv and acted all indignant, pointing his finger at others and calling reporters jackasses - and he was lying the whole time. NO CRED.

i would like to take this opportunity to once again to point out bassos fascination w/ this issue compared to his total ignoring of the indisputable fact that his president george w. bush had a gay male hooker over the white house over 200 times.

Pretty much everything has already been said, but I'll go ahead and echo it.

    1) I don't really care about his, or any other politicians sex life.... save for some examples of extreme lack of integrity (bailing on a cancer stricken wife, etc) and dangerous criminal behavior (sex or misconduct with minors, etc)

    2) Dude isn't a family values candidate, so hypocrisy isn't his big sin here, it's his indignation and stubbornness.

    3) The biggest trespass here to me is just flat out being stupid enough to 1) flirt with girls on the freaking internet (not a lot to gain from that, at least pull a Spitzer and get a freaking smoking hot hooker) 2) do it via his congressional facebook and twitter pages (he can run two pages... a personal one and a public one) and 3) do all of this when you're newly married to a really hot chick.

Seriously. He's a great statesman and civic leader, but on a personal level, that is some seriously stupid behavior. Blimey, how can you be that smart and that dumb at the same time?

It's just funny to me how people are trying to justify his actions or simply ignore them as not a big deal because he is from the same party as you. I think the big deal is this guy lied and tried to blame everyone else and even got mad at reporters. How can you trust or vote for anyone like that?

    pathetic

Perhaps he is just a loudmouthed lying jerk that isn't as smart as you previously gave him credit for?

I agree no one should justify this (I dont think anyone is). The big distinction is that people like Newt or David Vitter (who was having sex with prostitutes) really took minimal fallout in the grand scheme despite being politicians who openly campaigned on "family values," something Weiner never did.

I cant tell you how sad I am to hear that this is true. Weiner was a congressman that I really liked and to hear him lie for a week straight before finally confessing is pathetic. Also for those who say they "dont care" I cant agree with you at all. Its one thing to do this and be open and admit but he lied to us for a week and made up some hacking story that wasn't true. You should care when your congressman lies to us even if what he did might be trivial in your mind.

That said, I dont vote in his district and I probably would still vote for him because while lying about something like this is wrong and I'm not happy with it, the job of my congressman is to go vote on pieces of legislation which I think he's actually pretty good at. For example David Vitter pretended he wasnt having regular sex with a prostitute and lied about it for a while and then turned around and admitted it. And sure enough he won anyway.

I just wish all politicians, democrat and republican, realized that if you just open up and be honest people will forgive you. Also SunsRocketsFan I hope you realize the one point of contention is that when Republicans do something like this its flat out hypocritical in many cases since they openly campaign on an agenda that politicizes sex and family. (so I hope you can see why some people pile on some Republican candidates for doing something similar)

He's not stupid for sending a public tweet instead of a direct message (I wasn't aware twitter had a new feature to send messages via a twitter post that was that easy to screw up, i.e. one character wrong and massive failboat), that's a typo style mistake that could happen to anybody.

He's stupid for not coming clean from the start (albeit, who the hell would? that's embarrassing s**t), and even stupider for fooling around with interwebz chicks (like I said, nothing to gain from sexting chicks, at least get a really hot escort)... especially with his new hot wife in tow.

It's a stupid personal mistake, not a stupid professional mistake. Not going to base my vote/support on some dude's horndog internet escapades. He can cast a ballot for me, but he probably can't date my daughter.

The stupid personal mistake was sending the pics. The stupid professional mistake was lying to everyone about it.

All of his supporters that were analyzing pixels and attacking other bloggers just got cornholed by this jerk.

Like I said before, it's a personal matter, so I don't consider it a professional mistake, as his internet sexfail with these chicks has no bearing on or relationship to his job.

I'll let him and his wife sort this one out.

If he lied to me about something involving... say... campaign contributions, then I'd consider it a professional mistake.

And my advice to voters is, stop worrying about personal lives, and maybe we'll pay off some debt and keep a Twin Tower or two.

    Honest answer, yes.

I don't think it's realistic to expect a high profile, powerful person to automatically admit to a super embarrassing personal sexual matter. (or for that matter, a low profile, regular joe)

I don't think it makes him any more or less trustworthy in the matter of his profession. I said the same for Clinton, too.

I draw a pretty clear distinction between personal matters and professional obligations.

Most other countries don't seem to be as uptight about their politicians personal lives.

Multiple divorces, sexual trysts, etc, all just seem to roll off their backs.

Like I said, unless it's a wantonly criminal issue involving sex/relatonships, I don't think the public should really be bothered with it.
