he's having a hell of game through 8 innings, we get a 2-run lead and Williams takes him out. Now Wagner has 2 men on with only 1 out. I like Billy, but for once I'd like to see one of our starters go a complete game. Oswalt could've had a new strikeout record.
Jimy had already taken Roy out for a pinch hitter before we got the 2 run lead. It was a no brainer to hit for the pitcher when it was tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the 8th. Wags is paid to come in and pitch the 9th. He came in and did his job even if it was a little shaky. I'm just pumped that we have won 5 in a row. If we beat the Bucks again tomorrow we will finally pass them in the standings. Go Stros!
oswalt has not even pitched for a full season for his career. jimmy has a record of over using his pitchers and many people look at pedro as a example. I say, save oswalt's arm for the stretch and more importantly future seasons.
Because Wags is the most dominat closer in the nl. He's the nl version of Mariano Rivera. He allows runners to make things interesting.
If you watched the game, you would see that Oswalt's MPH went up on his fastball, to as high as 97. This doesn't mean that he got stronger, what it means was that Oswalt was overextending himself, as a starting pitcher. Usually his fastball is 93 or 94, but in the 8th inning it was 97. Jimy did the right thing by taking him out. I wouldn't want Oswalt to throw his hardest for 2-3 innings a row. If Oswalt were throwing with ease, then I would agree. However, he was relying on his fastball to whiz by batters, which isn't the best thing for a starting pitcher to do, at his size and age.
I've never heard that. In fact, I've herad the opposite, that Jimy has a tendency to pull his pitchers too early. With Pedro, he did what he had to. I know the team hasn't performed up to par yet, but I've been pleased with Williams management thus far. As far as I'm concerned, it doesnt matter whether or not we make the playoffs, but whether we get there and advance. Certainly the team would not have done that this year (or questionably any year) with Dierker at the helm. We'll have to continue to wait and see if Williams was the right replacement, though. Oswalt is a stud and on my fantasy team
