why on earth would you conservative minded posters want others to hate us? support of bush and his administration is tacit complicity in this dangerous new world that we have created. we are not only texans and americans but citizens of the world. we have a responsibility to lead, not alienate. what is it that makes you not care what others think? gore stated in his speech, with vigor and conviction, that our good name has been dragged through the mud. is this not disturbing? what possible good can come of this?
The thing is that they don't seem to think it matters whether another country hates us. They believe in the doctrine of "might makes right" and anyone who doesn't subscribe to that worldview is some kind of liberal pacifist who wouldn't know foreign policy if it bit them on the a$$. Bush squandered the perfect opportunity to get and keep the rest of the world on our side. He blew it and we are now making a bad situation worse in Iraq, in the Middle East, and all over the world.
I don't want anyone to hate us, but since the hate existed prior to this administration, I'm sure a good many people who support these actions think they'll do some good in the long run even if messy in the short-term.
I guess we just want the rest of the world to join us in our self-loathing. How about not labeling 'all' conservatives next time; not all conservatives blindly support Bush.
When I said "they," I was referring to the current administration. If you consider yourself 100% behind everything the administration says and does then I guess it would apply to you too, but only you can make that determination.
The hate did exist before this administration took over, but after 9/11, there was an outpouring of goodwill from the entire world, Arab nations included, and we had the support of the entire world when we invaded Afghanistan. Bush has squandered that goodwill and now people around the world regard us with more suspicion and angst than ever before. Great job, Bush.
Which part was unfair? The do seem to believe that "might makes right," they don't seem to give a **** about what any other country thinks, and anytime there is criticism of their positions, they label the critic a "liberal," a "pacifist," or worse. They did squander a major opportunity to capitalize on pro-US sentiment after 9/11 and are now busily making the rest of the world mistrust or hate us. Where was the unfair statement?
